The belief is he's signed to AEW. There's no rule everyone has to be on every week. It could be there's a conflict preventing him from appearing but I haven't confirmed that is the case as of this writing.
I've always wanted to know this: when a wrestler say Rey Mysterio or Eddie Kingston who are under contract to a major promotion Such as WWE or AEW ando to another commotion such as New Japan Pro Wrestling or AAA for a show or a bunch of shows such as Triple mania,or the G1 Climax are they being paid by their "home" promotion or by the other position they go to work for?what about working in the Indies while under contract to AEW?does AEW still pay them, or does the independent promotion pay the wrestler or AEW?
Rey would have been paid by WWE, since they are in trhe process of buying AAA. I would assume when AEW sends a talent over to a New Japan, it's probably different on a case by case basis with the two sides covering costs. If a talent works an independent, the independent pays them with AEW having to approve the booking.
