So The Smashing Machine completely and utterly bombed. Were you surprised? Is ANYONE surprised? Does anyone even know who Mark Kerr is? I'm not a UFC fan, never was, but can't recall ever hearing of him vs. some of the bigger UFC names. Per Wikipedia, he had a 15-11 record.
I was not surprised that it bombed. I know who Kerr is but I doubt most people do. If there isn’t some kind of hook to the movie, it’s problem selling it if the star can’t do that and clearly Rock didn’t accomplish that.
Dwayne Johnson's movie career has also been in a downward spiral for years. You'd have to go back to 2017's Jumanji to find his last major hit (and one of his only live action hits that wasn't Fast and Furious). Not to mention, wrestling fans seem to have turned on him as well after he forced his way on the booking committee and flopped at that and the Black Adam fiasco as well. And his public feud with Diesel. Very strange, considering how over and popular he was at one point and ridiculously been pushed as a potential presidential candidate!
Like the old saying goes, fame is fleeting.
Where were these $20M + Oscar predictions coming from? SURELY nobody in Hollywood ACTUALLY believes that the Taylor Swift movie stole the audience??? Seems like a very poor attempt at saving face that you know who would use. Can't imagine there is much of a cross over audience there.
To be fair people have won Oscars while not being in a commercial success. And no, I don’t think that Swift’s fans would have gone to Rock’s movie had hers not dropped the same week.
Where do you think Rock went off the rails so badly?
I don’t think it’s just him. Hollywood overall is a tough sell now. I think Rock realized this last year and put himself in the WWE universe when it was really hot. It didn’t work the way he had probably hoped.
And who do you think will play him in "The Rise and Fall of The Rock" movie?
If the movie is done they could pick one of the actors from Young Rock.
Although he's worth $800M+, so can't imagine he's losing too much sleep. But surely his career falling off a cliff must be getting to him?
I would think it bothers him. He is a talented man who has had a lot of success and is very proud.
