UPDATE ON PRODUCTION OF NEW SEASON OF OVW'S 'THE WRESTLERS'

By Mike Johnson on 2025-10-01 14:16:00

The following press release was issued:

Award-winning Chicago studio to produce follow-up to Netflix’s Wrestlers

  • OVW, the wrestling promotion that launched stars like John Cena and Brock Lesnar, has confirmed a new documentary series following the Netflix hit Wrestlers.

  • Award-winning Chicago studio Under The L Productions, creators of The Herro’s Journey: A Pro Wrestling Story, will produce the follow-up.

  • Head trainer and wrestling legend Al Snow says the new series will ‘take control of the story’ and showcase OVW’s rising talent.

Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) has appointed Under The L Productions, the Chicago studio behind the award-winning wrestling documentary The Herro’s Journey: A Pro Wrestling Story, to produce the follow-up to Netflix’s Wrestlers.

The popular Netflix series, which earned a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, was praised for pulling back the curtain on life inside Louisville’s Davis Arena before being axed after one season.

Former WWE European, Hardcore and Tag champion Al Snow was one of the stars of the original series. And as head trainer at the Kentucky-based promotion, he’s set to play a pivotal role in the new documentary.

The wrestling legend, who also performed in TNA and ECW, said: “The first series gave our wrestlers the platform they deserve. With this new partnership we’re taking control of the story ourselves, showing the world what makes OVW special.

“For us wrestlers, it takes a lot to pull back the curtain and welcome outsiders into our world. But we feel we’ve found the right custodian for the next chapter.

“With new owners on board and a lot of incredible talent emerging through our academy, it’s an exciting time for OVW. ”

Under The L Productions, founded by Drey Richards and David Vox Mullen, has screened work at festivals worldwide. Its feature The Herro’s Journey: A Pro Wrestling Story, which explored promoter Dave Herro’s career in professional wrestling and featured OVW talent, including his son, Kal Herro,  earned multiple awards and nominations for Best Documentary Feature and Best Director. Further selections include the Cannes World Film Festival, New York Lift-Off and Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.

The studio also produced Type 2 Comedy, David Vox Mullen’s stand-up special about his diabetes diagnosis. The film won at the IndieFest Film Awards and was nominated at the Rome Prisma and White Rose International festivals.

“OVW’s story is so much bigger than just wrestling”, said David.

“After the first series, so many people got onboard, but it’s unfinished. Drey and I seek to give people what they want — new wrestlers, new stories, and our own way of telling them.

“As a lifelong wrestling fan who has toured with Al Snow on the comedy circuit, it’s an absolute honour to bring this next chapter to life.”

The new series will continue to chart the highs and lows of the promotion where stars like John Cena, Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton cut their teeth. Filming is under way and details will be confirmed in due course.
