Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre is the latest star to cross over into a feature film franchise, it was reported today by Deadline.com.
McIntyre, in perhaps the most perfect synergy ever given the franchise's connection to Scotland, has been cast for a role in the upcoming film reboot of action fantasy film Highlander, set to star Henry Cavill as Connor MacLeod. McIntyre will be portraying Connor's older brother Angus.
The original Highlander film was released in 1986, followed by several spinoffs and a weekly series following the adventures of Connor MacLeod, one of many immortals at war with each other until there is only one left. The property is now under the Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists banner and will be directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick saga), who is directing from a screenplay by longtime collaborator Michael Finch (John Wick: Chapter 4).
Dave Bautista has been cast as Kurgan, the villain of the film. Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan and Djimon Hounsou, have also been cast in the film.
The expectation is that the film could be the start of a trilogy and would film mid-2026 for a 2027 theatrical release.
McIntyre is represented by The Paradigm Talent Agency, who signed with in July 2024 for representation in all eras. He was featured in a supporting role in Dave Bautista's action film The Killer's Game the same year and headlined the Project Rock/Under Armour “You Against You” campaign.
