Michael Cole Confirms Reigns’ Absence Indefinitely

By Kendall Jenkins on 2025-09-23 10:33:00

Roman Reigns has been sidelined for the foreseeable future after WWE Raw injuries.

Roman Reigns, 40, has been taken off the roster with WWE for an indefinite period of time. This is due to a series of "rib fractures" that he experienced in Paris after beating his opponent, Bronson Reed.  Of course, that is a cover for him off filming Street Fighter.

After defeating Reed on stage in France, Reigns was attacked by Breakker, who delivered several finishers to the wrestler. After some time, Breakker allowed medical staff onto the premises. The unrelenting spears delivered by Breakker resulted in Reigns being carried out of the area on a stretcher.

Roman Reigns in Texas

Roman Reigns has not only been making waves in Europe. On July 21st, Reigns attended the Monday Night Raw from Houston, Texas. Here, Reigns got into a heated argument with Paul Heyman, a manager and former executive signed with WWE. This segment saw Reigns being offered a reunion with Heyman. This took a shocking turn when Reigns made it clear that he has not forgiven Heyman for his betrayal at WrestleMania 41.

It was a great event for speculators, and even bettors had a field day. After all, Reigns is one of the longest-standing champions for the company. His 1,316-day run as Universal Champion in the company proved his dedication to the sport and to the company. Even those who wanted to place wagers on this WWE event had a hard time finding a platform fit for betting on sports from Texas. That’s why many bettors turned to offshore sportsbook sites to get closer to the WWE action, which offer more flexible odds and wider betting markets.

Despite this attention from fans and bettors, an offer from Heyman was not met with enthusiasm from Reigns. Heyman offered Reigns the opportunity to work side by side with Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed in a new faction, while Seth Rollins took leave for a knee injury. Heyman stated that he still loves Roman Reigns and believes that the duo can still do great things together. The Tribal Chief was not impressed with this and said to Heyman that he is “just a dumba*s”. Reigns went on to remind Heyman who tore apart the Bloodline.

What is the Bloodline?

The Bloodline faction is one of the most iconic storylines in the history of WWE. The group was led by Roman Reigns, and the Bloodline faction allowed for dynamic and engaging stories to be told by the company. The Bloodline was known for creating dramatic stories, full of twists, turns, and surprises.

Roman Reigns donned the new persona of the Tribal Chief as he started with the Bloodline and became involved as their absolute leader. There were a few instances in this storyline where other players tried to usurp power from Reigns, such as Jey Uso challenging Reigns in late 2020. In 2021, Jimmy Uso joined Jey, and the pair acted as tag champions, working harmoniously under Reigns. Sami Zayn also played a critical role in the group, holding it together with his charisma and charm and finding new fans for the ensemble.

However, fractures in the Bloodline started to show after the Summerslam 2023, where Reign’s leadership started to be truly disputed. From here, it seems that Heyman started to prime the audience for Solo Sikoa to take over the position of Tribal Chief from Reigns. While the Bloodline is no longer booked as a group, and Reigns has not appeared as a member of the Bloodline since the WWE’s first episode on Netflix.

The Angle to Roman Reign’s Injury

Unsurprisingly, Roman Reigns’ injuries, which were acquired out of the ring but on camera, coincide with a new booking. Roman Reigns is confirmed to participate in the live-action production of Street Fighter. Reigns will need to go to Australia to be filmed in this much-anticipated adaptation, with filming starting this week and wrapping up at the end of September.

Roman Reigns will be playing an iconic villain from the Street Fighter franchise. Akuma is a nefarious and powerful character in Street Fighter II, which was released in 1993. Akuma was originally a secret character and an alternative boss to the power-hungry dictator M. Bison.

However, Roman Reigns will not be the only WWE cast member present on screen. WWE Champion Cody Rhodes is also confirmed to act in the Street Fighter live-action. Rhodes, also known as the American Nightmare, has already fulfilled his commitments to the film, having been involved in production for the last three weeks. Rhodes is confirmed to play the character Colonel William F. Guile, who is a U.S. Air Force pilot. The IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Hirooki Goto is also slated for Street Fighter, and is cast as the iconic E. Honda.

Rib fractures are an injury that conveniently has a recovery time of about a month. This justifies Reigns' missing out on the much-anticipated Wrestlepalooza on the 20th of September. This event is a WWE Premium Live Event, which is set to debut on ESPN DTC.

Conclusion

Roman Reigns has occupied a critical position in WWE, and it is understandable that fans would notice his absence for a full month, especially as WWE continues its gruelling run into the winter. WWE appearances happen primarily in the United States; however, the company has made a name for itself in the rest of the world, with matches happening as far away as Europe and Japan.

However, fans of Roman Reigns will not wait infinitely to see him grace the WWE ring, and they also gain the added bonus of seeing him on the silver screen sometime next year.
