Variety is reporting that 1980s toy Teddy Ruxpin is being adapted into a feature film with The Rock's Seven Bucks Productions involved.
Ruxpin was a talking teddy bear toy that allowed kids to place audio cassettes in to play with Ruxpin's mouth movie to tell a story or sing a song, depending on what the tape contained, as seen in this 80s era commercial:
Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia are listed as Producers.
The film will be released by Amazon MGM.
The original toy was a popular item that led to an animated series, which ran for 65 episodes in 1986 and 1987. No word yet if the film will mine that material.
