STING, TONY KHAN AND MORE PAY TRIBUTE TO EDDIE GILBERT IN 2300 ARENA

By Mike Johnson on 2025-09-11 23:01:00

The late Eddie Gilbert, who booked for ECW in Philly was paid tribute to at tonight's AEW Collision taping.

AEW President Tony Khan came to the ring and talked about the importance of Eddie Gilbert in the Arena and brought out Doug Gilbert.

Gilbert talked about being the first person to jump out of the Eagle's Nest and how his brother became the King of Philadelphia.  He thanked Tony and AEW for honoring Eddie Gilbert.

Khan then brought Tommy Rich out.  Rich thanked Khan and all the fans in Philly.  He said when he was here with the FBI, everyone hated the Big Don.  He and Gilbert were a great tag team in Memphis.  He grew up with The Gilbert family and thanked everyone for supporting them.  He thanked AEW again.

Jeff Jarrett was next and said he could talk all night about Gilbert.  His father Tommy and Jarrett's grandfather Eddie Marlin teamed in Memphis, so they went way back.  He said that he had so many memories and everyone who came through Memphis wanted to be the next Jerry Lawler.  His father knew how to book pro wrestling TV and would tell Jeff how Eddie would come every week with handwritten notes and Jerry told him his mind was made for the business.  Years later, he became a great booker in Continental and ECW.

Khan then announced he had someone who was appearing in the Arena for the first time ever, Sting.  Sting came out and said he was invited to come and talk about Eddie.  He said that after two years, he was in main events against Ric Flair.  Sting thought about how he got that big break and he got it thanks to Eddie Gilbert.  He managed Sting and Jim Hellwig for a while and was his partner and thought Sting how to respect the business, the psychology of the business and how to carry himself.

Sting said it was great to see Doug, Tommy and Jeff again.  He thanked Tony to come back and talk to Philly for a bit.  He said he loves the fans and misses them but tonight was about Eddie Gilbert.  He asked the fans to chant and they chanted, "Thank you Eddie."  Sting said that he would have loved a "Hot Stuff" chant, so the fans chanted that.

Khan thanked everyone for being here and they played "Hot Stuff' by Donna Summer as everyone exited.

Thanks to Billy Krotchsen and Anthony G. Willis. for their help.
