PWInsider.com has learned that former WCW star Joe Gomez is currently hospitalized in Florida where he resides. The word making the rounds in the Sunshine State is that he's dealing with a serious illness, but the actual issue has not been confirmed.
Gomez, likely best known for appearances for WCW in the 1990s actually broke into the business in the late '80s working for Championship Wrestling from Florida and other territories in the Southeast.
Gomez, working as Alan Iron Eagle, worked as an underneath babyface in the early 1990s for WCW. He would return to the promotion during the Monday Nitro era, again as a babyface where he wrestled The Four Horsemen and The Dungeon of Doom among others. He fought the late Steve McMichael at the 1996 Bash at the Beach PPV and competed in that year's three-ring Battle Royal at World War 3. He regularly appeared on WCW programming through 1999.
In his post-WCW era, Gomez regularly worked the Florida independent scene, making semi-regular appearances through 2006.
PWInsider.com sends our best to Gomez, his family and friends and hopes for a quick, painless recovery.
