WWE NXT will present Heatwave this Sunday on Peacock and Netflix from Lowell, MA with a 7:00 PM Eastern start time for the PPV. Here is our take on what will happen on Sunday.
Men’s World Championship Match: Oba Femi vs Je'Von Evans
Dave: I like Evans a lot but I don't feel like it's time for him to beat Femi (with the caveat being as long as Femi is not being called up to the main roster).
Mike: They have a real David vs. Goliath feel to this one, but I don't see a title change here. The match should be fantastic.
Richard: If wrestling was logical, this should have been Trick versus Oba, but someone forgot that when you opponent is out cold after being thrown through the announce table, YOU PIN THEM RIGHT AWAY. Je'Von is going to be a star, but is he ready to be the World Champion? When you consider how fast they put the title on Oba (the North American Title as well as the World Title), it might be time for a change. Oba does not take his opponents for granted so he will not be 'shocked' into a loss. Evans will have to outwrestle Oba. Oba should take advantage of the damage that Evans sustained on Tuesday and try for a quick win. However, this is a main event, and by an Act of Wrestling Congress, it must go longer than it should. Evans comes close, but Oba retains in a match that elevates Evans and should foreshadow that his time is near.
TNA Knockouts Championship Match: Jacy Jayne vs Masha Slamovich vs Ash by Elegance
Dave: Sooner or later a TNA wrestlers has to win a TNA Title back, right?
Mike: You would think, but I expect Masha has Ash beaten only to have Jayne be a vulture and pick the bones to retain.
Richard: We saw the issues between these three women intensify after the six woman tag match. For a change, there was no Fatal Influence in fighting during the show, but I can see that be the factor that costs Jacy the title if they decide to do a title change. I expect to see a lot of distractiference in the match. I think Masha wins the title back due to Fallon Henley's 'accidental' mistake to take Jacy out of the match.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match: Hank Walker and Tank Ledger vs Dark State (participants to be announced)
Dave: I would keep Hank and Tank-a-mania running wild!
Mike: I am with Dave on this.
Richard: The mystery over who Hank and Tank will have to wrestle could make this match intriguing, or maybe not. My preference is Saquon and Osiris facing Hank and Tank. I don't think there will be a title change in this match because Dark State has gone from 'imposing team that terrorizes the roster' to 'group that has a guy who makes awkward double entendres'. Hank and Tank retain. Will there be a surprise appearance by anyone? I dare you to say his name.
Blake Monroe vs Jordynne Grace
Dave: I think Blake finds a way to swindle a win here, further frustrating Grace.
Mike: Blake needs a big performance here more than a win, but I don't see Grace winning and ending this yet.
Richard: I have not been a fan of the build for this match. While Grace has provided some good promos and has gone outside the box with the subject matter and she has talked about the motivation for her desire to beat Blake. I feel that Blake hasn't clicked yet in NXT and comes off as a caricature of Toni Storm. With the promos done, they can get to the wrestling. This is not for pride, not a title match, so I expect to see something extra from both of them. If Grace is going to challenge for a title in the near future, I think she should win. However, a loss would only add to Grace's frustration over what Blake has done to her and could send her over the edge. Blake gets the win.
Number One Contenders Match: Jaida Parker vs Lola Vice vs Kelani Jordan
Dave: Something is telling me Lola comes out on top here.
Mike: I love Kelani Jordan, but my gut says Parker here.
Richard: I like that this is the women's match that is the number one contender match because it provides some new blood into the main title feud. While these women have made their intentions known, this is the first time they don't have to look over their shoulders for someone to run past them to get the title match. The subtle jabs between Jordan and Vice may play a significant role in this match and I can definitely see opportunities for them to prevent each other from getting the win. Will that give Jaida the shot to worm her way into the victory (as is tradition with Triple Threat matches)? Will any of these women dethrone the champion? I don't think so, but it will be a good way to move these three into the main event level and with strong performances by all three, they should stay there for a while. All I ask is that whoever wins, stays with the same version of their gimmick since all three go back and forth between characters. I say Lola gets the win.
Ethan Page and Chelsea Green vs Tavion Heights and Tyra Mae Steele
Dave: This is a match that Page can lose to set up a future match with Heights. I expect that will happen and Chelsea will be her usual awesome self.
Mike: This will be the fun aspect of the show. Page and Green together is gold. Tyra is awesome and this should be about making her a bigger star.
Richard: The 'peace conference' on Tuesday night might have been a bit goofy at times, but you knew it was the way they were going to set up this match. It appears that the next North American Title feud is going to be with Tavion Heights, which is a good thing for a few reasons. First, Tavion deserves this opportunity. Second, it gets out of the three or four people who rotate in and out of the challenger spot. The interesting part of this match is going to be the performance of Tyra Mae Steele. Steele is going to be good, but she has not come close to the top of her potential at this time. Her inexperience in the ring might be a factor, but being in the ring with Chelsea Green will only enhance her performance. Green is able to do whatever it takes to make her opponent look like a million dollars. That will happen on Sunday, and I can see Steele getting the pin, but Heights pinning Page will build the North American title feud. This match will surprise people and may steal the show.
