WWE will present SummerSlam this Saturday and Sunday on Peacock and Netflix from East Rutherford, NJ with a 6:00 PM Eastern start time for the PPV. Here is our take on what will happen on Saturday.
WWE Championship Match: Tiffany Stratton vs Jade Cargill
Dave: I am definitely more excited for night one than night two, no doubt. This is a tough match to book because you could make a strong case for both to win. I expect however the finish occurs, it will be marred in some way. I think it's too soon to take the belt off of Tiffany and since this is Jade's first shot at the Title, I have the champ retain.
Mike: This should be a big match for each. I wonder if Naomi continues to screw with Jade to set up the finish. My gut is Tiffany retains but then Jade lays her out and walks out strong.
Richard: I think this is the night that Jade wins the title and fulfills her prophecy to become champion. Tiffany has had an underwhelming title reign but others have excelled the next time they get the title and I can see that for her. They have had Jade in the company for almost 2 years so it is time for her to show if she can be on top. I don't think this match will go more than ten minutes and I would be concerned if it went close to 15. The storm has arrived and it is time to see what she can do.
World Championship Match: Gunther vs CM Punk
Dave: I would love to see Punk win the belt here, I really would, but I don't see that happening. Even if Seth Rollins can't be there, he has two men that can. Rollins has said that he will keep Punk from winning the Title so I expect that to happen here. Hopefully it leads to Rollins winning the belt and then he faces Punk at Mania, where Punk wins the Title in the main event.
Mike: I am calling it right now. CM Punk walks out Champion - and I say there's no cash in. How about that? I expect this to be a hell of a match. GUNTHER can be the imposing monster and Punk can be the babyface fighting from underneath. Easy story and a compelling one, but I expect Punk shocks GUNTHER and beats him. Maybe he pulls out the old Anaconda Vise?
Richard: Will this be the night that we find out that Seth was 'injured' but not 'INJURED' to the point he would be out for a long time so he can cash in if CM Punk beats Gunther? That is something Bob and Andrew postulated. This should be a good match and I think Gunther should retain since I think he has been booked poorly as champion and over the last two years. If Punk wins, do we see a cash in attempt? I can see Punk as World champion, but what if it happens on a 'Saturday Night's Main Event' (or SNME type show) on December 27th in Chicago (don't put it past WWE)
Women's Tag Team Championship Match: Judgment Day vs Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss
Dave: Charlotte and Alexa are a lot of fun as a team. I pull the trigger here and put the belts on them to watch their story continue to grow.
Mike: The story here is the interaction between Flair and Bliss. I can see a title change here, but I don't think it's needed, but Flair and Bliss are the larger stars here, so I suspect it.
Richard: I am surprised that this is the match on Saturday's card that I am most excited about. Alexa and Charlotte have been a good team and are the Goldust and Goldberg of 2025. Roxanne and Raquel have been very effective as a team and I think they need to hold the title until Liv comes back. I would not be sad if Flair and Bliss win the titles, but I think it makes more sense to put them in singles action and maybe have a friendly feud to see who faces the Smackdown champion.
Roman Reigns and Jey Uso vs Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed
Dave: While it would be really hard to have Roman lose in his return, I would have the heels go over. If Bron and Bronson get the win here, it would be huge for them. A loss wouldn't hurt Roman and Jey at all. With Seth out and Bron rising up as the top guy in his group while Seth is out a win here would solidify that standing.
Mike: The talk around WWE today was this would likely open the show, which if that remains the case, is a HELL of a way to kick off the weekend. My feeling is Breakker and Reed getting the win would be the best thing for all involved to keep building them as a threat. My gut is Jey is the one taking the pin after we see Roman bringing a beating to all involved to get revenge for what went down on Raw. This should be GREAT.
Richard: I am writing this after recording the preview with Bob and Andrew and they almost convinced me to go with Bron and Bronson, but I have to go with Jey and Roman. This might be the first Roman Reigns PPV match since COVID that doesn't go 'full Roman' in booking. It feels like they made these two singles matches into a tag match to protect Bron if he was going to lose to Roman. Even with Reed taking the pin, I don't think Bron or Bronson are hurt as characters, and it might make Bron a bigger leader of the group. Will Seth return and lead a post match beat down and see the reunion of Jimmy, Jey, Roman, and Sami?
Randy Orton and Jelly Roll vs Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul
Dave: They have a huge star in Jelly who is taking the business very seriously. Give the people what they want and have him and Randy get the win here.
Mike: This has to be built around giving Jelly a lot of big spots and moments to pop the crowd. They have a great heel in Drew and an awesome athlete in Logan, so they'll have the proper framework but the real key will be how much Orton pulls out as he's going to be the guy who takes a lot of punishment to set up the Jellyroll hot tag. WWE has pulled out some incredibly entertaining celebrity stuff in the past, so we will see if the trend continues. I can't see Jellyroll losing.
Richard: I didn't think Logan and Drew were going to win this match when he was still in the US. As long as Logan Paul and Drew do not run directly at Jelly Roll, they should be fine. It would be a lot better if it was Drew vs Randy but Jelly brings in the casual fans while Logan brings in the people who want to see Logan get his ass kicked. Will the 'Jelly Roll' (what I am calling his Destroyer because everyone does an f***ing destroyer) be the end of the match or was he motivated by being at NXT to use the Sol Snatcher
Sami Zayn vs Karrion Kross in a "Winner Must Tell the Loser the Winner was Right" Match
Dave: Sami should win here but if Kross loses, that seems like it for him.
Mike: This seems to be setting up a nice win for Sami and sadly, not much else.
Richard: At least we have a match with a stipulation on Saturday's show and it is a weak one with the 'being the bigger man' stip (like the arm raising deal with Lyra and Becky). If the goal is for Sami to move on to bigger and better things, like a title, he should win the match. However, as Damon Killian would say, 'They're cheering for Kross'. Do we see Sami 'cheat' to win to show that Kross was right, but not have Sami admit it? Can we get Sami his 'Not a Bloodline' Bloodline shirt after this?
