DC Studios Head James Gunn was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about Peacemaker Season Two, starring John Cena, revealing a major plot point for the season, coming out of the Superman film that was released earlier this month, deals with a pocket universe that Peacemaker gains access to. When asked if this was another way to do a multiverse, Gunn commented:
"Yeah, but in Peacemaker, it's done in a much different way. Traditionally, when we're dealing with multiverses, we're dealing with...I mean, not traditionally. [Laughs] Over the past four or five years, they've suddenly been everywhere. I think of Peacemaker as more of a high-concept story about one other world. It's more akin to Philip Roth's The Counterlife than it is to the third Spider-Man movie [2021's No Way Home], which I love that movie, but it isn't about that. It isn't Deadpool & Wolverine. It's really a very simple, simple story about his relationship to this one other world."
Gunn also noted that John Cena's cameo in Superman would have happened even without the new season following the film, which kicked off the new DC Universe on camera.
"Oh, no, no, no. He would've been in there no matter what. I like the idea that he's going on this incendiary talk show, and he's one of these assholes that would be on that show."
