Scenic City Invitational Night 2
7/19/25 – Red Bank, TN
Scott Hensley welcomes us to Night 2 as we go live on IWTV. Mose and Rob Weathers are your commentary team.
Match 1: Gary Jay vs. Jaden Newman (w/ The Reverend)
The Reverend admits they are the party starters of the weekend at this point. This is a hell of a way to kick things off tonight. Jaden with a chop to Stiff Robo Ginger. Ha. No. He unloads a flurry of them and Gary walks through it! Jaden with a dive that Jay has to respect… and respect is shown through HARD, STIFF SHOTS. Jaden is fighting, but every time Gary connects… it’s like he’s losing his soul. Jaden bombs Gary into the support post! Gary with a hard lariat back into the ring! This is a war of attrition. Every hard hit only results in a two-count. Jaden finally connects with a pairing of a sliding knee and a package piledriver that puts Gary down. Awesome, awesome start. The crowd goes full “Both these guys.”
Match 2: Hunter Drake vs. Diego Hill (SCI Second Round)
This crowd haaaaaates Hunter Drake. He is a delightful irritant. Diego takes great pleasure in cracking him with some chops that rival the previous match. The sheer speed that Hill can get from standing is insane. Drake avoids a kick that could have beheaded him and drops a forearm to the ear! He tries a Lethal Injection, but Hill has that queued up to spike this kid. Dive to the sponsor wall! Hill whiffs the corkscrew kick and Drake bounces right back with a destroyer for the win. We might hate this dweeb, but SCI has offered up another banger.
Match 3: Kasey Owens vs. Colby Corino (SCI Second Round)
Kasey comes in hot and fast, but Colby is ready. Owens covers ground around the ringside area until he’s able to dodge a running Corino and send him flying into one of these unforgiving TWE chairs. Owens brings Corino back in and starts taking the Prince of Old School apart. Colby starts having to kick out of increasingly heavier artillery. Colby tries an Alabama Slam, but Kasey reverses it into a cannonball! Owens hits the running headbutt! Kick out! Kasey puts on that crossface chicken wing that put Ison to sleep last night. The crowd is right behind Corino! He escapes the submission, but Owens hits another running headbutt to the back! Corino crashes into the rope, and the whiplash of it all puts the lights out for Owens to get the three and punch his ticket to the finals!
Match 4: World Class Channing Thomas (w/ Sidney Bakabella) vs. Mad Dog Connolly (SCI Second Round)
Sidney is sporting a shiner from his encounter with Vinny Massaro last night. He promises to sue! Bakabella ALSO promises to cheat to win tonight, taking the SCI trophy home to the Northeast and never coming back. The crowd firmly believes that Mad Dog is going to kill them. Bakabella is definitely worried about THE CHAIN. “It’s a foreign object! Mad Dog is a cheater!” Amazing. Channing is having a rough time. Bakabella tries to pull the leg like last night and Mad Dog kicks out anyway. Bakabella’s face hits the support post and Channing’s equalizer is out of commission. Channing dodges and Mad Dog posts himself! Channing works the Dog over, but the crowd stays behind Connolly. Bakabella is back to his feet as the crowd chants “No Class!” Connolly has had enough and crumbles Channing with lariats and a dropkick! Channing eats a mauling, but a fisherman’s suplex gets him back in the game. Bakabella distracts the ref while Channing thunks Connolly with the chain! The crowd wants Sidney GONE! The ref tosses him! Channing is completely distracted as the crowd sings! Mad Dog has the chain. Big metal punch to the head! Mad Dog strangles Channing over his back until we get a World Class Tapout! To add insult to injury, Mad Dog rips Sidney’s wig off and cracks him with the chain!
Mad Dog Connolly is going to the finals.
Match 5: Jamesen Shook vs. Krule (SCI Second Round)
This is a TALL TASK for the 2024 ACTION Futures winner to take. Krule bades Jamesen to attack. And each time, he smashes Shook to the canvas. The monster is torturing this kid… but Shook keeps coming. He “dodges” several times by falling down and finally puts Krule on his back with a Claymore! And what does he get for the effort? Krule chokeslams him out of the ring into the TWE chairs. Shook is tossed back into the ring, but he finally targets the leg with a dropkick! Rolling DVD! Top rope double stomp! Krule kicks out at one. He stands up and beckons Shook again. Krule goes for Scorched Earth… Shook rolls him up and gets the three out of nowhere! He survived… and won!!!
Tank is out here! He’s a multi-time SCI veteran and is offering an open challenge to anyone who didn’t make it past the first round… VINNY MASSARO ANSWERS THE CALL!
Match 6: Tank (w/ The Reverend) vs. Vinny Massaro
We are singing “That’s Amore” again… is this what the Coven of the GOAT had in mind?!? The older ladies of TWE are definitely falling for Vinny — “HOW FICKLE YOU ARE!” growls The Rev! Tank rolls out to kiss the hands of the ENTIRE front row! He almost gets counted out. “Both these guys,” chants the crowd at the first lockup. Tank is absorbing what Vinny has to offer, but a dropkick sends this into Tank’s playground… and Vinny eats the support post. Tank makes Vinny suffer as the TWE ringside ladies have clearly gone back for their big, bearded mastodon. Tank drags Vinny back in and that saito puts Massaro down for the three. So much love for the sheer experience in the ring in this war of two territorial gatekeepers.
Match 7: Shimbashi, Danny Orion, Hakeem Young & Aminah Belmont vs. Bojack, Kody Manhorn, Terry Yaki & Mortar (Lucha Tag Rules)
It’s SCI vs. ACTION Futures! This is bananas. We get a couple of minutes of posing for the crowd to fire up before we all agree Ref Kim is the most important person in the ring! Aminah has a tough time with Kody. Hakeem gets whipped into running the ropes to the point of pure exhaustion. Bojack is just a meaty wall everyone bounces off. Kody requests to be press-slammed into the heels! Mortar obliges! Kody tries to go old school, but this turns into a four-on-one beatdown. Is this how lucha rules work? Kody escapes and Orion is eating so much accidental damage from his teammates! Bojack cleans house again! Aminah tries a running headbutt and may have KO’d herself! Orion survives a Blue Thunder Bomb! Team SCI looks to kill Orion with a four-corners smash, but Shimbashi runs out with the classic invisible hand grenade. They play hot potato but drop it… Kody tries to make the save but it explodes and everyone is down! Huge sequence of big moves as everyone slowly recovers and tries to get this in the win column for their team! Jack finally catches Hakeem into a torture rack and hits a sit-out burning hammer piledriver — holy fing s wtf was that?!? That was wild. This was chaos, and I loved it.
Match 8: Tim Bosby (c) (w/ Dylan Hales) vs. Tommy Davis (for the ACTION World Championship)
ACTION Futures winner Davis earned himself a hell of an opportunity earlier today. Dylan Hales has progressed from being on crutches to being in a wheelchair after his encounter with Krule last night. Hales is FURIOUS at the “incompetence and corruption” of the SCI leaders for Bosby’s loss and Davis’ Futures win! Bosby suits up for the defense while Dylan runs Davis down from ringside. Davis is tough, but he’s giving up a LOT of size to Bosby. The crowd wants this, and Tim doesn’t want to hear it. Matt Griffin comes out and gets Ref Kim out of there. He replaces her with no-nonsense Ref Kevin, who immediately removes Dylan’s loaded backpack from ringside! Ring the bell! Bosby comes in hot and Davis makes him pay! Bosby is sent over the top! Davis tries to join him down there, but the champ is playing possum. Bosby whips the smaller Tommy around while Dylan makes fun of him from ringside! “You’re a winner, right?!”
Bosby manages to distract the ref anyway and Dylan gets some choking in on Davis. Tommy tries to throw the champ off his game, but Bosby maintains his cool through a lot of this. Davis is still in this though, as he traps Bosby in a Boston Crab… and Hales uses his crutch to pull Bosby to safety! A grosssssss powerbomb to the knee. Davis kicks out! He reverses the F5 to a roll-up! Stuff DDT for two! Hales is beside himself! Davis goes for the kill, but Dylan blasts Davis with a crutch while the ref is distracted again. Bosby hits an F15 for the win. Booooooo! A great showing for the ACTION Futures winner, but this is a rough way to end Tommy’s night.
Main Event: Hunter Drake vs. Kasey Owens vs. Mad Dog Connolly vs. Jamesen Shook (4-Way Elimination SCI Finals – Lucha Tag Rules, No DQ, No Countout)
Jamesen is looking VERY worse for wear after his encounter with Krule earlier. Kasey is also looking beat. Hunter Drake? He’s looking springy and just as annoying as always. Mad Dog? Feels no pain. And that chain of his is absolutely legal in this final! Everyone but Hunter agrees that Hunter should start the match against Connolly. Drake dives over the top to force Shook in, and Mad Dog beats him with the chain. Shook rolls out, Drake’s back in… Connolly just destroying this rag doll. The Mad Dog is a FORCE in this match. Kasey is up for the test. Shook makes it back to the apron and that chain earlier made him a bloody f***ing mess. Owens tries to hang with the Dog… he backpacks a sleeper! Connolly with the slam back… Owens puts on the crossface chicken wing and Shook drops a stomp from on high! Drake tries a pin from the ropes on Owens but that doesn’t work. He kicks Shook low but can’t get the three off that! Connolly grabs Drake off the top with a gutwrench bomb and a piledriver to put this kid to bed for the three. Hunter is eliminated!
Owens with the blindside to the Mad Dog. Top rope splash for two! Mad Dog and Owens hit running headbutts and KO each other, but Owens lands on top and gets the three!
Shook is a mess. Owens screams, “You don’t get to take THIS from me too!” at Shook. Jamesen is on VERY wobbly legs but still game for this. They start taking shots back and forth. Both get dropped. Shook says he can’t see. It’s a LOT of blood. Owens tries to put him away, clawing and scratching at the wound. Shook gets some sight! Huge corner cannonball! A flop over the top! Shook is trying to end this, but Owens keeps smashing at that head. Shook might be on a timer based on blood loss. Owens tries for that crossface… Shook hits an AA for two!!! Shook tries a slingshot, but Kasey headbutts him in the spine out of the air! A running knee can’t get the job done! Kasey tries that crossface chicken wing again… Shook slams the backpack free! Shook hits a curb stomp!!! Kick out! Kasey spits in Shook’s face just before Jamesen hits a Psycho Driver for the win!!! Crazy good final!
The crowd celebrates as “Hot to Go” rings through the TWE Arena! 2022 winner Jaden Newman is out here to present the trophy to his former student and IWTV Tag Team Championship partner!!! Is this the first person to win the ACTION Futures one year and the SCI in the immediately following year?
Shook calls his shot for Erron Wade for the TWE Championship! He calls a shot at John Wayne Murdoch for the American Deathmatch Championship! He has the SCI trophy and the IWTV Tag Belt… and he wants more gold.
What a weekend!
