AEW's Tony Schiavone appeared this morning on Good Day Seattle on FOX affiliate channel 13, promoting this week's Dynamite and Collision taping in Kent, Washington.
Schiavone explained he started announcing in 1983 through 2001 and then returned 18 years later. The job is to create excitement and elevate the wrestlers, He said it's to make the wrestlers seem bigger than life and to explain stories to the fans.
Schiavone said they will have a double taping Wednesday with a live Dynamite and a taped Collision. They are heading to their biggest show of the year, All In in Texas. He mentioned Mercedes Mone vs. Toni Storm at the show and said that story will be furthered. He plugged that Swerve Strickland is a local Tacoma guy.
Schiavone said that when he gets to the arenas, he doesn't know what's going to happen and sometimes, during the show, he doesn't know. He still sees himself as a fan and tries to voice things as a fan. He was an aspiring baseball announcer and began working for The Crockett family, who did both baseball and wrestling and in 1985, they debuted on TBS.
They mentioned Schiavone's extensive travel and he discussed just appearing as Grand Slam Mexico at Arena Mexico, calling it one of the best experiences of his career. He plugged they are going to London and Glasgow later in the year and were in Australia earlier in the year. He said he gets pumped up for the shows and still loves the travel at his age. He talked about loving the chance to visit Seattle and that he was at Pike Market yesterday taking a walk.
It was a good appearance. Tony came off very personable and as a good ambassador for AEW.
