It’s Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is live from El Paso, TX at the El Paso County Coliseum. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Ian Riccaboni, and Taz.
Once again, Tony Schiavone is in the ring and he welcomes Adam Page to the ring. His Big Screen video as he comes to the ring is when he sat in front of Swerve Strickland’s house after he set it on fire. Our hero, ladies and gentlemen.
He starts by saying that triumph is fleeting and he has least that what is important is what you do with the feeling of triumph. He then tells Will Ospreay for the fight of his life. He says that he dispelled the notion that Ospreay could not be the man to carry the company forward because he can be.
He then pivots to talking about going for the AEW World championship and how Jon Moxley has locked the championship away in a briefcase. He talks about how the championship stands for the best in AEW. He says that the fans are his boss, and promises to win the AEW Championship.
This was very much the Rah, Rah babyface speech to start his drive to All In with a bit of an odd opening where he seemingly dismisses his victory on Sunday.
Swerve Strickland comes out and gets into the ring, and gets a bigger reaction than Page did. He says he will educate people as to why he is here. He shows the footage of the Young Bucks saying they kept Swerve from winning the Championship for Adam Page. Swerve says he had the title won, and the Bucks cost him the title, and Page was in the ring that night as well. He says there is collusion, especially since Page said he promised he would not let Swerve become champion again. He asks Page if he did that.
Page calls Swerve a dumbass (our Hero, everyone) and that night he thought for one second he might help Swerve. If he was going to cost Swerve the title, he would have done it face to face.
Swerve says it sounds good but he’s still full of shit. Swerve’s not wrong here.
This brings out Will Ospreay. He steps between them. He says he doesn’t want to get into Swerve’s business and Swerve is wrong about him. Ospreay says when he lost he felt devastated, and Page came back to the ring and shook his hand like a man. Ospreay says he felt the same way as when Swerve did the same thing when they fought and they both showed they cared about AEW.
Ospreay says they have one shot and they need to make it easier on him and work together. Swerve knocks the mic out of Ospreay's hand and they argue as Swerve leaves the ring. Page then gets in Ospreay’s face and says he will never work with Swerve as he leaves.
So there’s our story, can Will Ospreay get Swerve and Page to work together?
We then get a video recap of Anarchy in the Arena at Double of Nothing.
We then get the Death Rider Mobile driving up to the arena and they are on their way to the ring.
Marina Shafir, Gabe Kidd, and Jon Moxley vs Willow Nightingale, Mark Briscoe, and Speedball Mike Bailey
Briscoe and Kidd start by brawling and it doesn’t take long for the tag team siren to go off and everyone brawling in and out of the ring. Briscoe and Kidd keep fighting in the ring as the others brawl around ringside.
Claudio and Wheeler Yuta are there, but they don’t get involved because… I don’t know…reasons?
When we come back from break, Briscoe has been the babyface in peril. Speedball gets the hot tag and runs wild on Mox until Mox is able to sweep the legs when Speedball is on the ropes. Willow and Shafir both tag in and Willow overwhelms Shafir with her attacks. When Kidd breaks up Willow’s pin, Briscoe takes him out. Mox then tries to attack Willow with Speedball taking Mox out.
Mox and Speedball are tagged in and this is when Yuta interferes. Kidd beats down Speedball on the floor and then puts him through the timekeeper’s table as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Speedball has been the babyface in peril through the break. Speedball and Mox has been a lot of fun when they are in the ring as Speedball is able to keep up with Mox with his speed and Mox fighting back with power moves. We are also shown that Kris Statlander is watching the match from the back.
Briscoe gets the hot tag and he and Kidd go back to fighting like they did at the start of the match. When Briscoe goes to the top, Shafir and Yuta try to interfere, but Speedball and Nightingale stop him. Claudio starts to interfere, but Komander comes out of nowhere to do his rope run dive onto him to hype their match Saturday on Collision.
The Death Riders get submission moves on all of their opponents and Briscoe taps out to Mox’s bulldog choke.
Winners: Death Riders
The Death Riders get a win to make up for their loss Sunday, but they really should have explained why Claudio and Yuta didn’t just interfere the first time everyone went to the floor since the ref didn't do much to not see them when they did later on.
MJF and the Hurt Syndicate have a fairly generic promo in the back.
Ricochet talks about how there are a lot of different factions in AEW and he needs one himself for his quest for gold.
Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford vs Harley Cameron and Anna Jay - No DQ match
The story of the match is that Ford says that Cameron and Jay cheated since Jay kept Bayne fighting with her on the floor so she couldn't break up the pin at the PPV.
Plunder is thrown into the ring immediately and it doesn't take long before everyone is brawling in the ring. Harley and Jay batter Bayne with a 2 by four and a chair back and forth, and Bayne takes it all and clotheslines them both down before setting up a chair. Harley gets a drop toehold into the chair and then Jay drop-kicks the chair to get a two count on Bayne, broken up by Ford.
Harley and Jay set up a table on the floor as we go into the break. When we come out of the break, Harley and Bayne fight on the apron near the table. Finally, Jay nails Bayne with a chair so that Harley can power bomb Bayne through the table at ringside from the apron. Ford and Jay fight in the ring and Harley slowly pulls herself up on the floor. Harley goes for a casadora and instead Bayne slams her head first into the ring steps.
Harley has been busted open, looks like a busted nose as Jay gets a Gori bomb on Ford into a chair for two, broken up by Bayne. Bayne lifts Jay for Fate’s Descent on a chair for two, broken up by Harley. Jay leaves the ring and the doctor checks on her as Ford and Bayne hit a Doomsday Device (they don’t get all of it) on Harley for the pin and the win.
Winners: Megan Bayne and Penelope Ford
Ford and Bayne get their win back in a super fast-paced brawl. I think some moves were too dangerous for a TV match (chairs to the head? STOP DOING THAT even if you get your hands up).
Mercedes Mone is shown in a low rider with her belt in the back.
The Opps (Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs) AEW Trios Champions vs The Frat House (Preston Vance, Cole Carter, and Griff Garrison) w/Jacked Jameson
We are shown the return of Hook and how he didn’t rejoin the Opps during Anarchy in the Arena. I have not seen the Frat House, so their gimmick is new to me. Jacked Jameson always entertains me, but Preston Vance has been quietly dropped from La Faccion Ingobernobles during one of their many hiatuses, and Griff Garrison has gone from working with Julia Hart to a guy who passes out and pisses himself in a bar. Not the best career trajectory.
Jacked Jameson cuts a promo about how they couldn’t find a new member because everyone in El Paso is fat and ugly.
A squash match that ends as Hobbs gives everyone, including the “pledges” spinebusters and covers Carter for the pin and the win.
Winners and still AEW Trios Champions: The Opps
In the ring is Renee Paquette, and she brings Jamie Hayter to the ring. She is here to talk about her future and before she can, the lights go out. When they come on, we find out there have been spiders on the AEW logo as Thekla is here. She beats down Hayter and we are told a little about her. Thekla is a solid performer and I hope they give us a good introduction, so people understand her character.
We then get a promo video for Mistico.
Adam Cole (TNT Champion) vs Kyle Fletcher w/Lance Archer
Don Callis joins commentary. Taz tells him to warn Fletcher not to steal Hook’s intro and Callis says the Don Callis Family is all about gimmick infringement.
Fletcher slams Cole as the match starts and then poses. Cole goes for a headlock takeover and Fletcher is able to block it and slams Cole again. Cole lays in blows and then floats over a pickup and is able to gets a kick on Fletcher. The story is going to be that Fletcher is a powerhouse and Cole will have to chop him down to size.
Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta show to stand in front of Fletcher when Cole is about to dive onto him, but Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly come out to fight them to the back. When they come back from commercial break Cole has been beat down by Fletcher through the break. Cole gets a big superkick when Fletcher charges into the corner and he is able to take control of the match.
Fletcher is able to reverse the Panama sunrise and from there, Fletcher tries to capitalize, but Cole gets a shoulder breaker and then a Panama Sunrise. When Cole goes for the Boom Knee, Josh Alexander hits the ring and clotheslines Cole. The ref sees this and calls for the bell.
Winner: Adam Cole via DQ.
Before they can start the beat down, Brody King charges to the ring with a chair to run off Fletcher and Alexander. I am not a fan of blatant DQs, but this match painted them into a corner. Cole has not looked strong since winning the TNT title, and Fletcher is someone they want at the top of the card, so how do you have Cole retain? Also, with the decisive win by the Don Callis Family, you logically had to have someone in the family go for Cole’s title when they sense weakness.
A messy way out of a bad situation.
Brody King vs Josh Alexander - Tournament match for an International Title shot
Josh and Brody toss all of the security from the ring as we come back from break and it’s a hoss fight. They do a bit where Josh pulls off a turnbuckle pad and tosses it to the floor. Later in the match, Brody grabs it and stuffs it in his mouth. When they fight on the floor, Josh dodges a blow and Brody chops the ring post, leading Josh to go to work on the arm.
One thing I like about Callis on commentary is that while he does put his guys over, he also talks about how good the people they are fighting are, explaining that they are great, but his people are better because of him.
The match continues through three segments and is nothing but big power moves with Brody fighting through the pain and Josh going back to working on the arm. The match goes in and out of the ring more than a normal match so that Josh and Brody do more of their big moves. Josh is able to get a suplex where he has trapped both of Brody’s arms for two, and it was an impressive feat of strength. Josh is legit busted open on that move. Brody is able to get the Gonzo Bomb for the in and the win.
Winner and going on to the International Championship match: Brody King
In the back, Kyle Fletcher cuts a promo saying he didn’t need anyone’s help to win the title. Cole attacks him and they are pulled apart by security.
For the last segment, we have Mercedes Mone in the ring to face off with Toni Storm. Storm interrupts Mone’s intro speech. They circle each other in the ring and then Toni lays the AEW Women’s title in between them. Mone says fans are sick of the black and white and want a champion full of cover.
Toni says that she has heard about Mone saying over and over that this is the match Mone wanted since before she got here, so what took her so long. Mone gives her “Ain’t I great” standard speech. Toni says she is the Toni Storm of professional wrestling (in response to Mone’s “I am the Beyoncé of Professional Wrestling”) Mone goes back to her standard promo.
Toni says they are so much alike and when they came to AEW they became who they are meant to be. Toni puts over how much the title means to her, while Mone wants all of the titles. Toni finally gets to her first sexual innuendo. Took her long enough.
Toni says Mone may be the greatest of all time, but she is TIMELESS.
They finish up, post for pics, and then Mone holds out a hand. Toni shakes it and then pulls her in, sniffs her neck and kisses her hand. Mone tries to get a Mone Maker but Storm escapes and tries for a Storm Zero and Mone escapes and rolls out of the ring.
And we are outta here!
