It is Saturday and AEW Collision was recorded after Dynamite on Wednesday at the NOW Arena in Chicago IL. Our commentary team is Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness.
Anna Jay w/Harley Cameron vs Megan Bayne w/Penelope Ford
Bayne immediately carries Jay to the corner and nails her with shoulder thrusts. They run the ropes and Jay escapes a pickup and hits forearms. She kicks at Bayne’s legs and tries to whip her to the corner, but Bayne reverses it. Bayne knocks Jay off the apron and Ford tries to whip the leg. Ford attacks Jay on the floor and Harley drives her off. Bayne takes over the attack on the floor.
Bayne slams Jay on the apron and then blows a kiss at the camera. Bayn3 rolls into the ring and covers for two. Bayne locks on a bear hug, Jay tries to break free with elbows, but Bayne gets a suplex over the top. Jay dodges a senton on the apron from Bayne and they roll into the middle of the ring. Jay gets a series of strikes, followed by a mule kick and a backstabber. Ann gets a leg lariat, but runs into a house from Bayne. They fight to the ropes and Jay gets a neck breaker over the top rope.
Jay gets a dive onto Bayne and Ford, and when Bayne is rolling into the ring, Jay gets a blockbuster from the top. Bayne recovers for a falcon arrow for two. Bayne tries for Fate’s Descent again, and Jay lands on her feet, hitting Bayne with a DDT for two. Jay grabs a sleeper but Bayne gets up with Jay on her back and Bayne falls backward into the turnbuckle.
Ford pulls off a turnbuckle pad and Cameron pulls her out of the ring then they fight to the back. Jay is able to get a drop toe hold into the exposed buckle for two and then grabs a sleeper from behind. Bayne gets to her feet, with Jay on her back, and rams Jay into the exposed turnbuckle. Bayne hits a power bomb followed by Fate’s Descent for the pin and the win.
Winner: Megan Bayne
During the match, Tony passes along his best wishes to Jim Ross, who has been diagnosed with colon cancer.
Nigel announces that he accepts the challenge from FTR for a match at Double or Nothing.
Kyle Fletcher vs AR Fox
Don Callis joins commentary.
Kyle hits a running big boot when the bell rings. Kyle stomps Fox down in the corner. He whips Fox across the ring and Fox goes over the top and gets a series of strikes on Kyle. Fox tries for a rolling suplex, but Kyle blocks it and nails Kyle with a leaping kick. Fox then gets a casadora after bouncing off the ropes. Fox runs into a high side slam as we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Kyle hits the ropes and Fox hits a version of the best moonsault event for a rollup and a two count. Kyle gets a kick to Fox, and as he goes to the top, Fox leaps up for an iconoclasm into a two count. They jockey for position and Kyle gets a snap suplex and both men have to take time to recover. Fox gets a back body drop onto the apron, trips Kyle and then leaps over the top for a shadow stomp, followed by a dive.
Kyle is rolled into the ring and Fox goes to the top. Kyle dodges a 450 and Kyle gets a scoop slam and holds on for two. Kyle hits a running boot in the corner and a pick up, and Fox gets a rollup for two. He follows with a series of kicks and Kyle is able to catch Fox with a leg lariat and then a stalling sheer drop brainbuster for the pin and the win.
Winner: Kyle Fletcher
RPG Vice (Rocky Romero and Trent Beretta) and Lance Archer vs Brody King, Tomohiro Ishii, and Bandido
More Don Callis on commentary. I much prefer when Taz is mocking Callis when he shows up to commentary.
Ishii starts the match and each member of the RPG Vice gets taken down. Archer gets in the ring and King is tagged in. HOSS FIGHT as they throw hands. Brody takes Archer down with a big boot, and then Ishii dives onto him. All six men brawl around the ring as we go to picture in picture.
Returning to full screen, Ishii covers Rocky for two, broken up by Beretta. All of Archer's team hits the ring to go after Ishii, and Archer hits a chokeslam and Rocky covers for two. Bandido interrupts a Jackal Driver and takes out Archer with a low bridge. Ishii tags in King. Rocky is left in the ring with King’s team as they triple team him. King hits a cannonball in the corner on Rocky for the pin and the win.
Winners: Brody King, Tomohiro Ishii, and Bandido
Archer’s team attacks after the bell and as they get to work, The Outrunners hit the ring and clean house.
Lexi Nair is with the Paragon and the Grizzled Young Veterans interrupt. GYV say the Paragon has gone soft. So, next week, we get GYV vs Kyle O’Reilly and Roderick Strong.
Blake Christian w/Lee Johnson vs Speedball Mike Bailey
Blake waves off Speedball when Speedball goes for a handshake. He tries to attack from behind and Speedball takes him down for a two count. Speedball gets the fast series of kicks and then comes off the turnbuckles for knees in the midsection for two. Blake gets a bounce from the middle rope for a kick and then a dive onto Speedball. Speedball is rolled into the ring and Mike gets a 450 stomp from the top for two.
Blake works over Speedball but when he tries for a ripcord, Speedball throws a kick. They get a series of kicks back and forth until Speedball gets a thrust kick when Blake springboards into the ring over the top. They trade chops until Speedball is able to take the chops with no pain. Speedball gets a crane kick, and then follows with a thrust kick. Speedball then gets a moonsault springing off the second rope onto Blake on the floor.
Blake is rolled into the ring and Lee distracts Speedball so Blake can dive onto him. They return to the ring and trade kicks and Speedball gets a hurricanrana from the top and follows with a spin kick for the pin and the win.
Winner: Speedball Mike Bailey
Speedball grabs a mic and challenges Okada for a match right here, right now. OKada comes to the stage. Okada says he approves it….bitch. Dralistico and Rush attack Bailey from behind, and Okada goes to the back. No match tonight, I guess.
Big Bill and Bryan Keith vs Gates of Agony (Toa Leona and Bishop Kaun) - Chicago Street Fight
Everyone brings out plunder. Bill and Keith start setting up tables when they hit the ring. Gates of Agony bring out a barbed wire wrapped bat and the fight begins. We’ve got traffic cones, street signs, and more before Bill rolls Kaun into the ring. Kaun spears Keith through the table in the corner. We then get Leona and Bill fighting in the ring with a broken pool cue. They destroy the cues and they then just throw hands.
When Bill goes to the ropes, Kaun grabs Bill from behind with a cable and chokes him, and pulls him out of the ring. Leona takes over the choke and Keith leaps into Kaun’s arms on the floor as we go to picture in picture. I always hate a street fight going into the small screen simply because these guys are working hard with dangerous moves and it’s too small to really get a good idea of what they are doing. If we’re going to have a dangerous fight, at least spotlight the work they guys are doing.
When we return to full screen, Keith is upside down in a trash can as the Gates attack. Keith is covered for one. In the trash can. How did the ref know his shoulders were down?
Bill breaks it up and he and Kaun fight to the floor. Bill opens up his backpack and it’s got bricks in it. Bill swings the brick, and Kaun gets out of the way so the brick breaks apart on the turnbuckle. Keith nails Leona with a trash can lid, but Leona just gets angry about it and charges at Keith who tosses another trash can lid at him. They fight into the timekeeper’s area,
Kaun drags Bill into the ring on the side where there are tables set up on the floor. They fight into the ring and Keith nails Kaun with a trash can itself. Leona drags Bill to the apron and they fight there. Bill then kicks Leona off the apron through the tables at ringside. Keith nails Kaun with a hunk of drywall. Kaun gets up, smiling. Bill gets a big boot and then hits a chokeslam for the pin and the win.
Winners: Big Bill and Bryan Keith
We get a promo from Mina Shirakawa for her match with Toni Storm for the title at Double or Nothing.
Tony is on the stage for a tribute to Steve “Mongo” McMichael. We get his spouse, Misty, who gives a short memorial. She became a nurse in order to take care of Mongo as ALS affected him. Dean Malenko is also on stage. Tony goes over Mongo’s accomplishments in both football and wrestling and then introduces Ric Falir.
Ric gave a heartfelt speech and it was a nice memorial for Mongo. Classy move from AEW since they have the legacy of wrestling on TNT and TBS.
They highlight the Lex Turner ALS Foundation: lesturnerals.org
On TNT, this is where the show ends, and they do nnot show the match between Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara vs Cru for a tag team title show at Double or Nothing. They also do not have the match between Powerhouse Hobbs and Wheeler Yuta. Instead, they start showing the movie “Black Adam” a half hour early.
This is also where the show ends on MAX.
No notes up on any social media from AEW that I can see.
