It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is held at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, LA. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, and Ian Riccaboni
Tony Sciavone is the ring to bring Master P to the ring. Are we going to get the No Limit Soldiers? No, he’s here to introduce the new Trios champions, The Opps. Samoa Joe, Katsuyori Shibata, and Powerhouse Hobbs come to the ring and Joe has something to say. They are here to celebrate but before they do, he thanks Master P for doing so much he’s doing for New Orleans.
Before they can get much further, The Death Riders show up and attack the Opps as Shafir distracts them and everyone is brawling around the ring and on the floor. Master P is the last one left standing, his hood still up on his sweatshirt. When Mox goes to have words with him, Joe grabs the coquina clutch and chokes out Mox as the rest of the Death Riders are run off.
As Mox slumps, the Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada attack and knock out Joe with a steel chair. Mox gets to his feet and Shafir grabs him and pulls him out of the ring. Before the Bucks can do anything, Swerve Strickland comes out of the crowd, and the Bucks and Okada bail. The problem is that Kenny Omega comes from backstage to stop them from going back up the ramp, and the Bucks and Okada have to take off through the crowd.
Joe grabs a mic and says he will be taking back his AEW World Championship.
And it only took what feels like 50 years for SOMEONE to start teaming up against the Death Riders.
In the back Renee Paquette is with the Patriarchy and she asks Nick Wayne about winning the Ring of Honor TV title. Christian Cage takes it from him and says Nick won because he pushed him, and later that night, Cage and Mother Wayne celebrated his victory. Nick grabs the title and says “See what happens when you stick to the plan?” Looks like they are finally pulling the trigger on Nick fighting back.
Ricochet vs Mark Briscoe
Ricochet bails from the ring to taunt the crowd and when he does get into the ring, he keeps stalling and the crowd is all over him. When Briscoe finally starts getting kicks, Ricochet sells it big and the crowd pops for it. As the match goes on, this is a classic beloved babyface against a sneaky, cowardly heel, and Ricochet is doing a great job on getting the crowd to hate him while selling like crazy.
When they get to near falls, Briscoe’s Death Valley Driver is just a thing of beauty. Briscoe is able to reverse a pin by Ricochet with feet on the ropes, and gets the surprise rollup for the pin and the win.
Winners: Mark Briscoe
The place pops big for this and Ricochet goes after Briscoe with a chair. He then pulls out a pair of scissors and Kevin Knight comes to the ring for the save. Once Knight takes the scissors, Ricochet runs to the back and Knight helps Briscoe to his feet. I love that Ricochet didn’t stay there and jaw jack, he took off like a coward.
Tony Schiavone is the ring to bring FTR to the ring, but Stokely Hathaway comes to the stage, says he’s got this and then introduces them. Tony stays in the ring and FTR shakes his hand. Stokely does the talking and says they were fined and suspended for laying hands on Tony Schiavone. He then goes over crimes that other wrestlers have committed. Hathaway says he is now FTR’s agent and asks Tony to complete his interview.
Cash then says what happened with Daniel Garcia was a mistake, but they did respect Danny enough to stop when he said to stop. Dax then asks people to relax. He introduces the Rock and Roll Express and asks them to come to the ring.
I am pretty sure they get beat up every time they are on AEW, so…
FTR shake hands and embrace them but then Dax says the fans didn’t cheer FTR so they don’t need to cheer the Rock and Roll Express. Dax asks questions, but doesn’t allow them time to answer and says the Midnight Express was better than the Rock and Roll Express. After Dax cuts them off repeatedly, They ask them to stop and Stokely says they have a new shirt available…
And FTR attacks the Rock and Roll express. The Undisputed Kingdom show up to run FTR off and they leave through the crowd.
The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson) vs Speedball Mike Bailey and Kevin Knight
It’s The Bucks’ first match back after their break, and their opponents are also high-flying and capable of a spot fest, and that’s how the match starts as we quickly go to commercial after a few big sequences. When Knight gets his spotlight, it’s clear the AEW fan base has accepted him quickly, but the Bucks dominate the majority of this match.
Lots of big combination spots when we get to the end of the match to pop the crowd. Knight and Bailey get in their big spots, which I agree with, as they are still getting the crowd used to them. When we get to the end, Ricochet grabs Knight’s leg in revenge for what happened earlier so that the Bucks can hit the EVP Trigger on Knight for the pin and the win.
Winners: The Young Bucks
In the back, Renee is with Toni Storm and Luther. She talks about appearing at the TCM festival and then has an eliminator performance. Queen Aminata accepts the challenge. Toni is then carried off by Luther. Another great promo.
The Hurt Syndicate with MVP comes to the ring and they have something on their mind to share with us all. MVP says that this is an official announcement, and every team they have faced is home recovering. The mic is handed to Lashley, but we see MJF appear in the back on the Big Screen.
We then get MJF’s music. He comes to the ring and says he knows they had a good time last week, and if they want a good time for the rest of their lives, MJF needs three thumbs up. MVP goes thumbs up. Shelton goes thumbs up. Shelton says he didn’t get a thumbs up because of the women and a watch, but because MVP vouched for him. MJF says Lashley has reservations, but he will be able to help the Syndicate because of his AEW experience. MJF then says I’m Sorry like Fonzie back on Happy Days.
Lashley puts his thumb out and MJF tells him if he gives a thumbs up, the car MJF drove up in is his. Lashley asks for the keys, which are in the back, so they all walk to the back. The commentary team talks about what has gone on in that segment.
In the back, MJF shows off the car and Lashley gets in the car and MJF says all he needs to do is give a thumbs up and it’s his. Lashley gives a thumbs down and drives off. MVP puts an arm around MJF and says “Give the people what they want.”
Renee is with Adam Page and he is pacing back and forth as she asks about his upcoming match with Kyle Fletcher and he’s going to put him in the group when they meet. MJF joins and they have words. Page mocks MJF for losing his car, and MJF responds by saying he will stroll in through the backdoor to win the title without being in the Owen Hart tournament. MJF says if Page wins the Owen Hart tournament, he will do what he does best, choke.
Will Ospreay and Brody King vs Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander w/Don Callis and Lance Archer
Ospreay and Takeshita start off the match as Don Callis joins commentary. Josh gets in the ring as the match starts and they double-team Ospreay. Josh leaves the ring to tag in and he is able to keep up the domination of Ospreay for a minute or two before Ospreay starts cooking. He tags in King and Takeshita gets into the ring as well and King scoop slams everyone, including dropping Ospready on Josh.
King just beats down Josh in his corner before tagging in Ospreay by his chop on Josh carrying over to Ospreay. As Josh and Ospreay work in the ropes, Takeshita is able to attack Ospreay from the floor and allow Josh to take control. Ospreay is the babyface in peril through the break, and Takeshita and Josh are still working to keep him from tagging out.
Once King gets the hot tag he goes on a tear, ending it with a dive onto Josh and Takeshita. I don't know why Buddy Murphy isn't around, but I like that King is getting a lot of TV time the last few weeks. From here, we move to two counts and near falls with Ospreay and Takeshita. When King gets the big cannonball in the corner, Archer gets on the apron to argue with the ref and give Josh time to recover.
From here, everyone is getting big moves, including Josh getting a German suplex on King. Josh gets an assist from Takeshita for the C4 spike, the pin, and the win after Ospreay takes out Archer on the floor.
Winners: Konosuke Takeshita and Josh Alexander
The Don Callis Family starts a beat down after the bell and they stand over King and Ospreay as Kyle Fletcher comes to the ring. Archer holds Ospreay and we hear Adam Page’s music and Page heads to the ring and he is attacked from behind by Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero. Page is able to get away and threatens Fletcher, but Page is taken down by the other members of the Callis family.
Jamie Hayter vs Kris Statlander - Owen Hart Tournament match
This is going to be a power based match with both women good at that style. Lots of brawling in the ring to start the match, interspersed with flying kicks. Hayter is able to take control as we go into the picture in picture and through the break. We come back to them throwing hands in the middle of the ring and they go back and forth in the ropes until Kris gets a dragon sleeper.
Hayter works her way free with elbows to Kris’ leg. Hayter gets a leg scissors and Kris gets to her feet with Hayter on her shoulder for a front electric chair. They rolls back and forth for two counts before trading kicks. They keep trying for finishers, and Hayter gets a brutal looking backbreaker called the Hayte Breaker. LOTS of power moves from both women.
Hayter gets a clothesline on Kris when Kris comes off the ropes and follows with a Hayterade for the pin and the win.
Winner and moving on the face Mercedes Mone: Jamie Hayter
Mone comes to the stage and Hayter stays in the ring and they should at each other as Excalibur quickly gives information on upcoming shows.
