The finish of Chelsea Green vs. Zelina Vega did not go down as originally envisioned, PWInsider.com can confirm.
The match saw Green get counted out of the ring by the referee while yelling at the audience and announcers.
According to several sources we spoke to in the company, the belief after the match was that Green legitimately did not hear the referee's count as it was getting to ten, so the count out was 100% legit. When the referee made it to the end of the count, they had no choice but to call for the finish as a shoot, as they couldn't ignore hitting the ten count on live television.
One person believed that when Vega was tossed in the ring, perhaps Green thought the referee would start the count anew, so she began focusing on playing to the announcers and audience, not realizing the counting was still ongoing - and then when ten hit, the bell had to be called for, as she didn't hear the referee and didn't get back in the ring in time.
We are told that there was no injury or anything that forced the early finish, just a legitimate miscommunication.
We are told that the match was slated to go a few minutes longer.
I believe the finish was for Vega to win, so the finish still got everyone involved where they needed to be to set up the six woman tag announced for Las Vegas next week, but in a different way, as they had a legitimate countout finish instead of their planned out finish.
We are told there was no heat on anyone backstage after and it was just one of those things that happen when it's live television being broadcast without a net.
