Spotlight Match: Love Doug vs Danny Jones
Jones is from the UK, visiting us here at Open! Since he’s across from Doug, we decide the man who is “made of stone” must have a heart of stone. Danny is too much of a British brute to handle Doug’s particular expressions of love. He doesn’t like the smooches, the prom pose or the test of love. Danny spends a lot of time beating on Cupid Douglas but the power of love compels him. After a hard fought comeback, Douglas hits the slice of love for the win! Really good opener…I hope Jones isn’t just passing through for the week, if like to see him back against some stiffer combatants. I was impressed.
Match 1: Ashley Vox vs Gabby Forza
A double welcome back in our first match! We love Gabby but Ashley is another Beyond OG who hasn’t been seen in a while. Very cool matchup. Vox tastes Gabby power early and wants nothing to do with it. Ashley spends a lot of effort dodging and countering our homie, the Gnomie. Experience is a factor here and Vox has a ton of it…but experience doesn’t matter when your opponent picks you up and hits a three buckle stampede. Ashley fights out but Gabby blasts her in half with a spear for the three. A good start but now…
Now it’s time for the regular Big Business Quarterly Report with Brad Hollister and Love Doug! Brad says they SHOULD have been tag champions after last week…but they have to talk about stocks. Specifically, the stock of TJ Crawford. Before they say anything, TJ comes out to say the report is cancelled before he knocks their slides over. Doug grabs the mic, he says TJ has been breaking his heart as de facto leader. Brad concurs and says Big Rizz Victor Chase agrees. Everyone wants CHANGE. TJ says he always does what’s best for Big Business…and he shakes Brad’s hand. The crowd….doesnt quite buy this.
Match 2: Jake Gray vs Hammer Tunis
The Handyman against one of Open’s biggest tools. Jake starts showing those BIOPro fundamentals…but Hammer takes the kid into deeper water and uses him as a punching bag. Jake with a valiant comeback but Tunis hits a reverse ddt that starches Gray for the three.
Tunis on the mic calls out Sammy Diaz for a match on April 17th…but next week, it’s a Pick Your Poison match for each of them.
Before we can get to a match, Smart Mark Sterling is out here with VSK. VSK is about to take advantage of a fallen Jake Gray and zip tie his arms but his Wrench & Resolve partner is out here to make the save, and a match!
Match 3: Eric Chacha vs VSK
Chacha is rolling for about 20 seconds before Vinnie drops him. The next couple of minutes VSK beats the crap out of the guy. Smart Mark doesn’t NEED to interfere but he does anyways. Just because. Chacha starts throwing a few kicks but VSK hits a Yoshi Tonic for the win. And then mark grabs the mic and continues to berate us. He reminds us that they have a “favor” from Wrestling Open officials to cash it. And it sure seems like it will be for a title match so they can “fix” Open from the top down.
Match 4: Nick Robles vs Dustin Waller
Neither guy has any backup tonight but I think that is very much a detriment for Robles. Dustin is having an early time in the early going but Robles resorts to a couple of cheap shots and takes the lead. Robles disrespecting the hell out of Flash. But the former tag champ fights free, hits a Michanoku driver and a flash splash for the win. Good technical match but the crowd seemed a little flat for it.
Main Event 1: Bear Bronson vs TJ Crawford
If the crowd felt flat before, they came to life when Bear Bronson came out. Despite the fence mending from earlier, Crawford is out here alone. “Bear is gonna maul you” chants Worcester as Bronson pummels TJ. At some point, Doug and Bacon find their way to ringside. Like, I blinked and they were there, cheering Hard cracking chops frustrate Crawford. TJ tosses Bear from the top which tweaks the big man’s knee and gives Crawford a target. TJ tries working that leg but he gets too wrapped up in these striking exchanges with Bronson that send the crowd wild. Bear has a mid timed encounter with Brad and Doug that lets TJ kick out the leg from behind and a Silver Bullet puts the lights out for three. This was awesome.
Main Event 2: Anthony Greene & Channing Thomas vs DJ Powers & Georgio Lawrence
DJ on the mic talks about how Thomas and Greene mistreated him in the back when he was coming up. For him, this is retribution. For the crowd, we are making up for all the swearing we couldn’t do on Monday with these “World Class F***s” chants. Channing and Greene know what we want and they spend a long time beating these “moist boys” up. DJ with the blindside and Lawrence shows those kickboxing skills on Thomas. Channing eats a LONG beat down while Greene is kept at bay. When the hot tag comes, AG starts mopping them up…but the numbers game from the slightly more seasoned tandem is working against him. Both teams trying to finish this, DJ tries to blindside Channing but eats a superkick. Tandem finish on Lawrence as AG hits a piledriver and throws a fallen Georgio back to Thomas for a second piledriver and the pin!
AG on the mic. He’s loving this team…and he calls out Swipe Right for those titles on any Thursday or Monday they want. Channing just says they are SIMPLY THE BEST. Good name.
Wait, we’re not over? Denver Colorado is in here, says we have time (he’s right. it’s barely 9:15) and offers $100 to anyone who wants to fight in a bonus match! Eye Black Jack and Brett Mettro hit the ring! We have a match!
Bonus Match: Eye Black Jack Pasquale vs Brett Mettro
DC stays on the outside and calls commentary to the room love on the mic. This is fun. Jack and Brett going hold for hold, both trying to lock in that tap. Mettro blasts Jack over…EBJ has a receipt for that right away. Brett laying in the beat down as wrestlers from the back come down to ringside to cheer this contest on! Jack kicks out of a running senton! Brett starting to show a little more of that aggression. Heel turn coming? This almost feels like an exam for Pasquale, as he’s taking on BIOPro’s first graduate. Huge powerslam from Pasquale! Some guy slides in to interfere with the pin? Oh f*** this is real. Ref Bill pulls the guy off as DC tells the guy to GTFO. Wrestlers quickly pull the guy out of the ring and assist him out of the building. Brett takes advantage of the confusion and hits a TKO on Jack for the…KICK OUT! Jack up and hits a uranage for the win! EBJ is $100 richer! Look, this was a blast and I liked the live mic format but the REAL STORY HERE? A drunk dips*** got in the ring with two newer wrestlers and not only did it not kill their flow, they USED IT in the story. 1. Don’t be that guy. Never be that guy. Even if you are drunk and think a $100 open challenge is real. While I’m at it, also don’t be a creep at women wrestlers. And definitely don’t be the both of these guys at once. Ffs. 2. This crop of BIOPro kids are going to be GOOD.
