CENA-CODY, PAT MAC ON RAW, AEW FANS AND MORE

First, I love the site and I have been a supporter since 2009.  Second, I wanted to say that I am NOT a fan of what they are doing with Iyo Sky‘s latest title run.  She is coming off a bit goofy with her proclaiming that she is the champion and then getting pie faced by Rhea and Bianca.  It‘s clear to me that WWE is building toward a match between Rhea and Bianca at WM.  I think this will make Iyo look like a joke.  Now, Asuka is set to hopefully return soon.  What if Asuka showed up and cost Iyo the match on next week‘s RAW and they build a match between Asuka and Iyo for WM?  What are your thoughts?

I think that would make Iyo look even worse.  I wouldn’t do it.  I would just stick with the three way now, and have Iyo retain.

You were saying that WWE booking for WrestleMania started going bad when The Rock came back and demanded Cody’s soul.  The reaction online was the opposite. You said that John Cena’s heel turn made no sense after he won The Elimination Chamber on his own and in context to Rock.  The reaction online was the opposite.  You hated John Cena’s first promo as a heel.  The reaction online was the opposite.  By the time Cena did his second promo, the online reaction started changing.  Why do you think that is?

I think the shock factor wore off and people started realizing that what they expected after The Elimination Chamber didn’t come into play.  While Monday’s promo was a bit better than the first two, it wasn’t good.  His reason for turning is lame and no mention was made of The Rock.  It feels very Vince McMahon-ish and I think at least some fans are seeing that.

Do you think WWE is concerned that Pat McAfee could say something on Raw similar to what he said about that girl in Mississippi?

I can’t say how they feel but if it’s me, we are having a long talk (if we haven’t already) about what he can’t say on Raw.  You’d hope that he would have the sense to not say something that would get them sued, but after what he has said on his own show, I would be concerned now about whether he knows what is inappropriate.  I would think after this coming out he will be a little more careful in what he says.

I was one of the fans excited by the Cena Rock alignment. Cena was committed to dates all year and with a sprinkle of Rocks involvement here and there I thought it opened up the possibilities of some great story telling.  They've lost me already. We have a face who isn't wanting revenge and calling the people lovely. We have a new heel who hates the people so much he aligned with the people's champion. And we have a TKO board member aligned with someone trying to ruin the company.  Make it make sense please.

I wish that I could, but I can’t.  It makes no sense to me either.

Concerning this answer:

Do you have any inkling as to whether fans in foreign countries have the "tribal" mentality as fans in the US? Do you think fans in Mexico, for example, are as divisive about AAA and CMLL?

From what I remember, back in the day there were fans, in Japan for example, that liked All Japan more than New Japan, but I don’t remember anything close to the venom that a lot of AEW fans have against WWE fans.

Just for the record…there’s just as much venom going in the opposite direction. Not sure why you would call out one and not the other…

For the record, I make the record here in this column so I go by what I see.  To me, it’s way more AEW hate towards WWE than vice versa. WWE fans know they watch the top brand and I don’t see them going into the weeds the way AEW fans do to them.  Perhaps you are an AEW fan and you don’t see it, but it’s there.  It’s like unrequited love and that just makes the AEW fans more angry.  There is no world where I see the venom being equal.  For the most part, I see AEW fans attack WWE and sometimes WWE fans fire back. Maybe you see different things. I can only go by what I see.
