Hope you guys are well. Listened to the FMB, and I have the same "less excited" feeling about WM this year. I'll still watch, of course.
Yep, that is how I feel too. The last two Manias were so well crafted and built up to that this year’s show just hasn’t come close to that standard for me. I have no interest in Cody vs. John Cena, though I am sure it will be very good. There are too many forced matches, cramming more people into bouts that should have been one on one. Jey Uso was red hot coming out of the Rumble and they cooled him down for some reason that I don’t understand. I could go on, but you get the point. I am sure it will be an enjoyable two nights of wrestling but I am just not stoked for it the way I was the last two years.
Putting aside my personal feelings on how Cena's heel turn was handled, is it fair to say that whether Cena stayed face or turned heel at this point it wouldn't have made a huge difference in Mania ticket sales? Even for people who loved the creative direction, would they actually love it enough to buy (very overpriced) tickets and book a Vegas flight and hotel in an extremely uncertain economy that's teetering on the brink of recession? TKO has made tickets so expensive that I have found myself priced out of being a WWE live event attendee--I'm sure a lot of other longtime fans feel the same way. I can't think of a storyline that would get me to spend thousands of dollars on a whim less than 40 days before Mania.
Your point is an excellent one, for sure. I have been saying for probably a year or more now that TKO was pricing fans out of attending shows. Frankly, their ticket prices are ridiculous and as you said, they are pricing people out of being able to attend. It’s not a huge issue now but if the product sees a downturn, they will really feel it then. Here we are less than four weeks until Mania and their ticket sales are under 100,000 when last year they did over 170,000 in Philadelphia. Yes, the shows are also on Easter weekend, which is a factor. The economy is shaky. And as I said above there are people like me who aren’t blown away by the build to the shows. But the biggest reason that they are where they in ticket sales is the prices that they are charging. They make it easy to say, “I will just watch it on TV”. It’s a shame too because fans that would have come if it were more reasonable would have loved a trip to Las Vegas.
Question about MVP's recent comments that he wished he'd "slapped the sh!t" out of a certain WWE exec: I have no issue with him feeling that way. It's an ego driven business and I'm sure many folks over the years have wanted to harm another performer, and I'm sure others followed through on it. Outside of some clickbait, why would he bother saying anything without naming the person? It just makes it seem as though he's still playing it safe by not naming them, in case he's able to return to WWE at some point, likely in a backstage role. It kind of reminds me of Alex Riley, who has said he had an issue with John Cena, but then won't go into further details. Why bother even saying anything then? Your thoughts?
I am with you. If you are going to allude to something, say what you mean. Otherwise what’s the point? OK MVP, there is a WWE exec you don’t like. Wonderful.
Is Karrion Kross injured? They keep having him pop up in everyone's ear stirring up trouble but it never leads to a match or feud? Feel like they could get much more out of him. Good look and good on the mic but typically in background.
If he is I haven’t heard about it. I believe that they are trying to get over his character and that will lead to matches down the road, but that is just my take on what they are dong with him.
What would have happened if Mox had landed on a vital organ when he landed on the nails? AEW didn’t even send a doctor out to remove the nails.
The whole thing was ridiculous and irresponsible, for sure. If Mox had punctured a vital organ or hit an artery, he could have bled out when the nails removed. How Tony Khan didn’t send a doctor or at least an EMT out to oversee the process is beyond me. It was a ridiculously stupid scenario all around.
