ROH GLOBAL WARS AUSTRALIA REPORT

By William Watkins on 2025-02-18 10:40:00

ROH streamed Global Wars Australia on WatchROH.com on 2/17.

Ian Riccaboni and Caprice Coleman did commentary.

ROH Champion Chris Jericho, Big Bill & Bryan Keith vs. Bandido & The Outrunners

The show kicked off with a huge crowd reaction as Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith made their way to the ring. There was an especially massive pop when Jericho faced off with Bandido at the bell. The Outrunners, decked out in masks in a sign of respect to Bandido, were introduced as "Los Outrunners," and the fans immediately began chanting for Bandido.

The biggest moment of the opening stretch came when Big Bill tagged in and the crowd erupted. Bill absolutely decimated one of the Outrunners with a series of brutal chops, making his presence felt in a big way. The excitement continued to build throughout the match, and in a shocking turn, Bandido managed to pin Jericho clean with one of his suplexes. The crowd was buzzing!

However, post-match chaos ensued when The Learning Tree attacked everyone, and Jericho used a chair to inflict punishment. Just as things seemed dire, Powerhouse Hobbs made an unadvertised appearance to a massive ovation. Hobbs cleared the ring of everyone except Jericho. Jericho attempted to strike Hobbs with the chair, but the impact was absolutely no-sold by Hobbs, who then proceeded to manhandle Jericho. Big Bill tried to intervene, but Hobbs stood his ground, forcing Bill to back off.

The crowd erupted for Bandido and The Outrunners, who received a huge ovation after recovering from the chaos.

Athena did a backstage promo saying she's the most underrated champion in wrestling and would beat Alex Windsor.

ROH Pure Championship: Lee Moriarty vs. Robbie Eagles

In the opening minute of the match, Eagles went for a Figure Four, but Moriarty quickly scooted to the ropes for his first break. Moments later, Moriarty found himself trapped in a hammerlock and teased heading for the ropes, only to stomp on Eagles’ foot instead. The action moved toward the referee, causing him to shield himself. Amid the confusion, Moriarty landed a closed fist punch to Eagles. When the referee turned back, Eagles retaliated with a punch of his own, earning a warning.  Moriarty then locked in a Border City Stretch, but Eagles quickly made it to the ropes for his first break. A minute later, after a Bow & Arrow submission, Moriarty transitioned into another submission, but Eagles reached the ropes once more. Almost immediately after, Eagles applied a heel hook that forced Moriarty to grab the ropes. By the five-minute mark, both men had only one rope break remaining.

Moriarty locked in the Border City Stretch again, weighing his options before using his final rope break. Eagles responded with a missile dropkick and another leg hold, forcing Moriarty to use his last break.  Eagles continued to apply pressure with multiple near-falls, including a Turbo Backpack, and targeted Moriarty’s injured leg with a submission. However, Moriarty fought back and secured the victory with a schoolboy pin while holding the ropes—technically legal since neither man had any rope breaks left.  This was really good.  Moriarty is having a great few months.

Mark Davis vs. Tommy Knight

The crowd was fired up for this next match as they gave a huge reaction to Mark Davis, hailing from Australia. Tommy Knight, a regular in PWA and MCW, also received a nice pop as the two big men squared off. The early going was a power struggle as both men exchanged massive strikes and had the crowd chanting “MEAT” with every hard hit. Knight hit a big DVDR that got a great response, but in the end, Davis overpowered him for the victory in a physical and hard-hitting contest with a piledriver variation.

Alex Windsor cut a promo saying she would be the new ROH Women's World Champion if Athena underestimates her tonight.

ROH Tag Team Championship: Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara vs. MxM Collection

The crowd was fully behind the champions, Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara, as they made their entrance. The champions’ chemistry was on full display, with Rhodes teasing a dive and then opting for a goofy Spinaroonie, which set up a big Guevara dive from the top to the floor. The crowd ate it up.

The challengers, MxM Collection, looked like they might steal the win after a huge Mace Black Hole Slam on Guevara, but Dustin Rhodes made a crucial save, earning a loud “Thank you, Dustin” chant from the fans. The match continued with plenty of back-and-forth action, and Rhodes hit a Destroyer before Guevara finished things off with a Swanton Bomb to Mace for the pinfall. However, Mace wasn’t done – after the bell, he snatched the ROH Tag Team Championship belt.

Momo Watanabe from STARDOM was in attendance.

ROH Women’s Championship: Athena vs. Alex Windsor

The match was incredibly competitive, with Athena initially trying to bully Windsor, but the challenger was undeterred and fought back at every turn. Athena went for the O-Face early but was caught and slammed by Windsor, who followed it up with several headbutts while trying to set up a spinning DDT off the ropes. She connected on the move and almost scored the pinfall, sending the fans into a frenzy.

Windsor's momentum continued, but Athena managed to evade a spinning clothesline and hit a devastating DDT of her own. From there, Athena went to the top and hit her O-Face finisher for the victory, retaining her ROH Women’s Championship. The match was hard-fought, and both women received applause for their efforts, with Athena standing tall at the end.

An action-packed show with good matches, big pops, etc.  The crowd was highly engaged throughout the show and this was easily the best ROH showing in some time.
