LIVE NOTES, SPOILERS FOR AEW GRAND SLAM: AUSTRALIA FROM BRISBAINE

By Mike Johnson on 2025-02-15 05:28:00

Mark Campbell is live at AEW in Brisbaine, Australia and will be sending along live notes and spoilers from AEW Grand Slam this morning.  We thank him in advance.

Unique Talent Note:

Several of my friends said they saw Skye Blue entering with some of the other talents today.

AEW airs on ESPN here so those of us here can see the show live and then go home and watch the Grand Slam broadcast.  Cue the Tony Khan Timecop stuff!

Merchandise Notes:

AEW is selling an exclusive 1 in 2000 Toni Storm action figure exclusively here at the show.  They said at the stands that if they aren't sold out, they will be sold at ShopAEW.com.

I got in the venue a little late and a LOT of merchandise was already sold out, so whatever they brought from the States, they were moving it.  They had special Grand Slam Australia shirts as well as merchandise for Buddy Matthews, Death Riders, Cope, Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Toni Storm, Jay White, Orange Cassidy (is he even here?) as well as hats and replica title belts.

PRE-SHOW NOTES:

The Brisbane Entertainment Centre is very much sold out and the crowd is VERY LOUD.

Arkady is the ring announcer tonight.

The Collision broadcast team is Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness.

Arkady introduced AEW's Tony Khan.  Some fans cheered and a lot booed!  He said it was dream come true to be here and this will be one of the greatest nights in AEW history.  He promised it would not be AEW's last time here, which got a big reaction and the crowd cheered him.  Khan seemed to win the crowd over with his comments.

GRAND SLAM:

Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega vs. Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher.  Don Callis and Mark Davis were with them.  The crowd chanted "Holy sh--!" before the bell.  Callis is on commentary.  Lots of Ospreay singing and chanting.  Ospreay and Fletcher started it out.  Lots of action as you can imagine.  Big AEW chant as everyone was out on the mat after a ton of moves.    Ospreay and Fletcher chopped each other hard.  Takeshita and Omega battled on the floor.  Ospreay scored with a big DDT that everyone went nuts for.  He went for the Hidden Blade but Callis grabbed his leg.  The Omega-Takeshita chemistry in the ring was crazy.  Omega nailed the V-Trigger on Takeshita.  Fletcher and Takeshita came back with double tombstone piledrivers but their opponents kicked out.  The crowd chanted for them to fight forever.   LONG match.  Takeshita escaped a One-Winged Angel.  Fletcher attacked him.  Omega bounced him off the ropes to the floor.  Ospreay hit an insane dive over the buckles to the floor on Fletcher.  Takeshita was taken out with a One-Winged Angel/Ospreay Blade counter and pinned.  The entire floor of the arena was standing at the end.

Next is TBS Champion Mercedes Mone vs. hometown hero Harley Cameron.    Big reaction when Harley was announced from Australia.  Resounding boos for Mercedes coming out.  Pretty easy to see who the favorite is.  No puppet Mone.  They battled back and forth.  Harley went under the ring and pulled out the puppet, which enraged Mone.  The crowd chanted "Feel the Wrath" as Cameron gained control.  She nailed a flying bodypress and hit a Destroyer for a close pinfall.  Mone came back with a powerbomb.  She nailed a Meteora off the ropes but when Cameron kicked up, big roar.   Cameron nailed a 619 style kick and went to the top rope.  She missed a swanton as Mone rolled out of the way.  Mone nailed her with the Money Maker and that was it.  Mone retained.

The Brisbaine Brawl with AEW Champion Jon Moxley & Claudio Castagnoli vs. Jay White & Cope is up next.  Big reactions for Cope.  Everyone brawls at the bell on the floor, into the ring and back out on the floor.  They go right into the audience  Claudio and Cope fought right past me, so perhaps I'll be on ESPN tonight!  I was watching them fighting to the upper deck of the Centre.  A table was pulled out on the floor at some point by Moxley or White.  Moxley used a trash can to beat up White.  Cope dove off the second level of the arena down to Claudio below in one of the entrance tunnels.  Moxley was wearing out White on the floor.  The crowd chanted he was a wanker.  Ha!  Cope tried to suplex Moxley off the top through the table on the floor but Marina Shafir attacked him.  Cope was sent through the table after a Claudio powerbomb.  Lots of Cope taking crazy bumps tonight.  The Death Riders took control.  Claudio executed the big swing and after a few rotations, Moxley smashed Jay White with a trash can.    It was White alone fighting the disadvantage of the numbers as Cope tried to recover.    Cope returned.  White destroyed a Kendo Stick on Claudio.  It appeared White was going to win but Wheeler Yuta attacked and lashed him with a belt.  Cope went to spear Claudio through a table.  Copeland pulled a barbed wire wrapped chair out from under the ring and nailed Moxley with it over and over.  He attempted a Conchairto with it but Yuta stoled the chair.  Marina nailled Cope with the briefcase.  Moxley locked on his choke as Claudio prevented White from entering the ring.  Cope tried to fight it but the lights went out and referee Bryce called for the bell.  Moxley wouldn't let the move go and the crowd chanted "Bullsh--!"  Crazy brawl.

Cope is out of his mind.  Australia gave him an incredible, extended standing ovation after the match.  He took a lot of time taking it in, even after he left the ring.  A really cool moment to experience live here in Brisbaine as everyone was singing his song.

They aired a video on the screen where Will Ospreay challenged Kyle Fletcher to a steel cage match at the AEW Revolution event while Kenny Omega challenged Konosuke Takeshita for the International belt at that show as well.

Kazuchika Okada vs. Buddy Matthews for the Continental Championship is next.  Nice reaction for Buddy.  Okada gave him the finger at the bell.  Nice wrestling early.  Okada dropkicked Buddy from the top to the floor.  Matthews was grabbing at his leg after he landed.  This allowed Okada to take control and he locked in a chinlock.  Buddy came back with a big flipping dive to the floor and a Meteora from the top after Okada was deposited back inside the squared circle.   Okada nailed The Rainmaker and Matthews actually kicked out, which was a big shocker live.    Okada tried to use the title belt but was stopped.  Matthews nailed a Stomp and Murphy's Law but Okada used the ropes to prevent the three count from being executed.  The crowd chanted "Bullsh--!"  They battled on the top.  Matthews nailed a superplex and a jackhammer but Okada kicked out.  Matthews trapped Okada in a submission but the champion rolled through and the referee was almost wiped out several times.  Okada caught Buddy with a low blow and the Rainmaker.  Okada still Champion.  We really thought Murphy was going to have a big moment here live.  Fans were chanting "Wanker" at Okada as he left.

Matthews was limping after the match but held up a vest with the Australian flag to show respect, which the live crowd gave back to him.  He was walked out by an official.

They announced they would return to Australia in 2026.

So, our main event is Toni Storm vs. Mariah May for the AEW World Women's Championship!  May was booed out of the arena for her entrance.  They did a big entrance for Toni with Luther the Butler dressed as a theater usher and a big theatrical entrance building to Timeless Toni Storm.  They went right at each other.  Storm hit some nice suplexes.  They went to the floor, where May whipped Toni hard into the barricades.  This led to Luther arriving to assist Toni.  May nailed a spinning backbreaker for a two count.    Storm made a comeback but Mariah hit Mayday on the floor.  Storm made a comeback and scored a close two count with Storm Zero.  May caught her with a Gutwrench suplex out of nowhere and hit Mayday several times.  Storm kicked out at the last moment.  Storm fired back and nailed Storm Zero but May rolled to the outside.  Storm missed a charge in the corner.  May nailed her own version of Storm Zero.  Storm escaped Mayday and nailed Storm, pinning her for the title!  Big reaction to the title change live.  The crowd chanted "You deserve it."  May sat on the floor outside the ring upset while Storm played to the live house.

Storm took the mic and said the first time she was in the arena, she sat in the crowd with her mother.  Her mom made her tonight's costume and was here tonight.  She said it was the greatest honor of her f---king life and thanked everyone.

They reminded everyone they would see us in 2026 and that's the show.  Heading home.   It was a great live experience.
