Rob Schamberger's latest AEW painting pays tribute to Kenny Omega.
Schamberger commented, "Sometimes I have an idea for a painting and hope it comes out the way I want, and occasionally it turns out far cooler. That’s what happened with this Kenny Omega piece. It’s one of those that could have fallen far short or gone off the rails, due to its overall minimalist nature, but through a combination of luck and skill it stayed together and ended up surprising me. With watercolor, it’s sort of a controlled chaos, especially when using the technique called ‘wet in wet’. That’s where you apply a layer of water in an area, and then add the watercolor within that space. The pigment will spider out and settle in fun and unexpected ways and it’s only through repetition that an artist can begin to at least have an expectation for what it will look like once it dries. Luckily for this piece that worked out!"
