The New York Post reported this morning that Vince McMahon's attorney has been told that the federal grand jury investigating a potential criminal case against former WWE head Vince McMahon has ended and there will be no charges filed against McMahon.
McMahon had previously stated that the investigation into him ended when he agreed to pay a $400,000 civil penalty to the SEC, and reimburse WWE $1,330,915.90 for signing two settlement agreements, one in 2019 and one in 2022, on behalf of himself and WWE without disclosing the agreements to WWE’s Board of Directors, legal department, accountants, financial reporting personnel, or auditor. The SEC press release noted that by "Doing so circumvented WWE’s system of internal accounting controls and caused material misstatements in WWE’s 2018 and 2021 financial statements." The 2022 agreement was in relation to Janel Grant, who is now suing McMahon, WWE and former WWE Excutive John Laurinaitis. The person involved in the 2019 agreement has never been publicly identified.
Earlier this week, a ruling from a federal appeals court ruled that a former lawyer for Vince McMahon was wrong to "withhold some documents from a federal grand jury" as it investigated how Vince McMahon investigated how McMahon handled settlements with women who accused him of sexual abuse. The writing within that ruling indicated the grand jury investigation was still active, but McMahon's attorney Robert Allen states that is not the case.
“This is simply the result of an appeal of a procedural matter that was argued five months ago,” McMahon's attorney Robert Allen told The New York Post. “We have been in consistent communication with the government since that time and understand, with no ambiguity, that the investigation has definitively concluded and will not result in charges.”
None of this has any impact on Janel Grant's civil lawsuit, which is still ongoing.
PWInsider.com broke in October 2024 that McMahon was setting up a new entertainment hub company out of California with the idea that it would officially launch in 2025 if his legal issues were resolved.
