You've been in the wrestling journalism game for decades now. One thing that always happens, and it's always tough, are roster cuts. On one hand, they have to happen at some point. You can't just hire hire hire and not let anyone go. But... it still doesn't feel good or right. Seeing people lose their jobs, especially releases as opposed to letting deals expire. How do you rationalize cuts? Do they bother you? Do you try to see it as an opportunity for them? Do you view it differently depending on if there are mass cuts or if they're done during the pandemic for example?
I run a business so I look at things from that perspective. WWE offers a contract. The talent decides whether to accept it or not. If they accept it, they are bound by the terms of it. Releases suck, no doubt, but to me they are just part of the business. I think it’s up to the talent to decide how to react to them.
Timothy Chalamet would do very well in a wrestling ring? Maybe in the Ishowspeed spot from the Rumble last week. That comment, to me, symbolizes everything wrong with Tony's booking. Will he ever learn?
I think the only way that he will ever change in any way is if his father makes him run the company the way that a wrestling company should actually be run. If that never happens, I expect Tony to continue to be what he is.
The 2005 Royal Rumble is known for the infamous beatdown of Daniel Puder by Chris Benoit, Hardcore Holly, and Eddie Guerrero. A "similar" scene played out at this year’s Rumble with LA Knight, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins and CM Punk putting the "boots" to Logan Paul. Was this just the WWE planting seeds for future storylines? Any real heat on Paul?
I didn’t even notice it until you mentioned it. I haven’t heard of any heat on Paul.
Last year Punk noted to Ariel Helwani that he was left on his own to get medical treatment for his torn tricep. At one of the media scrums, Tony was asked about this and said he would look into it. Has AEW ever refuted this charge? One would think if it was false they, or their most obvious surrogate/sycophant, would come out with "the truth". Considering that Rey Fenix said something similar, it makes me wonder.
Say what you want about Punk but he’s a straight shooter. I believed him when he said it and I haven’t heard anyone from AEW refute it. That’s sad that Tony would allow that.
It's wonderful to see TNA score a big TV deal in Canada with Sportsnet and Rogers Communications. Does this give a good sign that hopefully they can be on a larger network in the United States?
I won’t say that it does or doesn’t. TNA filled a void in Canada left by WWE going to Netflix. That void doesn’t exist here. With that said, their working agreement with WWE could help them in getting a TV deal in the US, if they want it. Remember, their parent company owns their TV outlet as well. With that said, if a bigger deal could be made I am sure TNA would be open to it.
