A company's world heavyweight belt is an important branding tool, which WWE utilizes very wisely. Not to mention they sell a ton of replicas. So why does Tony Khan keep his top title belt locked up in a briefcase, never to be seen? It seems like a real misuse of the top prize in his company.
Tony Khan has a vision of wrestling that I can’t really explain because I often don’t understand whatever he is trying to accomplish.
Do you think WWE should have switched Punk-Rollins to first and placed Tribal Combat last? This way, you go out on the high of weapons, high spots, and run-ins to end the show with chaos, a cliffhanger, and possibly even John Cena getting involved - with the bonus of hyping everyone for the upcoming Royal Rumble?
They could have but I was fine with how they did it. Reigns and Solo got the show off and running and Rollins and Punk delivered a classic in the main event. I was fine with that.
I loved the opening video. I was getting emotional basking in the rich history of pro wrestling and the WWE. I was proud to be a wrestling fan and proud that our form of entertainment is on the biggest mainstream streaming platform worldwide for the world to discover. As a fan yourself for decades, did the opening video hit you in the "feels" too?
I thought it was fantastic. It did a great job of introducing new fans while making people like us feel nostalgic.
I have met Fluffy, been to his shows, and think he is a good dude. However, I didn't like the segment where Fluffy mocked New Day right in their face and didn't get slapped for it! Could you imagine that happening to Roddy Piper? At one time, Piper kicked the biggest FEMALE pop star in the world for less! Shoot, even Beth Phoenix slapped and choked Maria Menounos in a backstage segment after getting lippy!! Fluffy is a huge fan. He would have probably partaken in such an angle. Celebrities should rarely, if ever, be allowed to punk wrestlers without serious physical consequences. Shouldn't the celebs who encounter heels be portrayed as fearful, respectful, or deferent - so the heels don't come off as jokes - especially in the social media age?
If Alpha Academy hadn’t come and backed him up, I could have had an issue with it but since they did, I was OK with it.
I’m reading about this Corey Graves situation and it’s got me thinking about other social media rants by wrestlers like Ricochet fighting with people on Twitter and I feel like Mercedes Monet was doing something similar at one point. Aren’t these people supposed to be adults? What do you think is behind the immaturity of the wrestlers today? The “legends” never acted like this in public. They went to Vince directly. I realize they didn’t have social media but even Shawn Michaels at his worst didn’t go off on a personal tangent when on Regis & Kathie Lee. Maybe I’m just getting crotchety in my middle age but good grief.
I have no idea why they do it, I really don’t. It doesn’t accomplish anything positive, especially with Graves. I can’t explain why they do it because I don’t understand it myself! I understand frustration, for sure, but making a public spectacle out of yourself is just childish and stupid.
