It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is at the Brady Music Center in Cincinnati, OH. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz!
We start with a hype video showing what the Death Riders have been doing the last few months.
Brian Cage w/Lance Archer and Kyle Fletcher vs Kenny Omega
Don Callis joins commentary.
Don talks about how Omega attacked him last week out of nowhere, and when Don is asked about stabbing Kenny with a screwdriver, he says they need to concentrate on the match going on now. Kenny starts by working on Cage’s leg. Cage, however, is going after Omega’s midsection as we are reminded of Omega’s illness and long rehab.
When Omega goes for his dive, Archer gets on the apron to block him. Omega knocks Archer to the floor, allowing Cage to return to the ring and gets a big lariat and taking over the match. Omega is press slammed into the announce desk, and Don Callis attacks Omega as he lays there. When we come back from commercial, Cage is using his power to control the match.
Omega gets a gut wrench power bomb off the top rope and follows with a V-Trigger for two, which was a power move of Omega’s as well. Omega is able to get the one winged angel on Cage for the pin and the win in the middle of the ring.
Winner: Kenny Omega
Fletcher and Archer attack after the bell, and Ospreay hits the ring for the save. After Ospreay dives onto Fletcher, Konaosuke Takeshita comes to the ring and he and Omega throw hands. Fletcher is able to grab Omega from behind and the Don Callis Family takes back over and leaves both Omega and Ospreay lying with the Family standing tall.
A good match to highlight Omega and re-introduce his style to the crowd. It also starts up a pair of stories with Omega against the Don Callis Family as well as an alliance with Ospreay, despite their long history as adversaries.
We then get a promo from MVP about how he is lacing up the boots for the first time in two and a half years. It’s from a bar and looks different from the normal promo, which worked for me.
Chris Jericho and the Learning Tree cut a promo with a New York Minute ending by stating he and Jon Moxley are on the same page.
Ricochet is called to the ring and we get a video showing his attack on Swerve Strickland. Ricochet is booed and is shocked by it and has trouble starting his promo because of the crowd chanting Swerve’s House.
He then shows the picture of him standing over a bloody Swerve Strickland is shown and he says that a picture is worth a thousand words. Swerve’s music hits and as Ricochet is watching for him, Prince Nana hits the ring from behind and nails Ricochet to the beat of Swerve’s music. Swerve then comes to the ring and nails him with a chain wrapped around his fist. Ricochet takes off through the crowd and Swerve follows until Ricochet leaves the building through an emergency exit.
We then get a promo video of a Day in the Life of Mercedes Mone.
The Hurt Syndicate (MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley) vs Private Party (Zay and Quen) and Mark Briscoe
MVP starts the match in the ring with Briscoe as everyone else brawls on the floor. The brawling stops when Private Party is down and out and MVP stays in the ring until he tosses Briscoe to the floor. When we come back from commercials, Private Party is finally in the ring and working over Lashley.
In the end, however, Benjamin takes out Quen with a German Suplex and a superkick.
Winners: The Hurt Syndicate
I know they are priming a big match between the Hurt Syndicate and Private Party, but Quen sure lost quickly and easily.
We get a promo video for Rated FTR. Most of these videos are brief introduction videos and are there for new viewers to help them understand who the characters are.
Jeff Jarrett is in the ring but before he can say anything, MJF’s music hits. MJF comes out to the ring and starts to speak, and Jarrett interrupts him and MJF screams at him for it. MJF then says that Jarrett is the last person you see before a wrestling company dies. Jarrett is having trouble keeping a straight face.
MJF then makes a snide comment about Jarrett’s recovery and then moves into hitting on Karen Jarrett. Jarrett says that what MJF is saying has been said a thousand times before. Jarrett talks about his passion and how it will lift him to the AEW World Title. He then says no matter what MJF does, Jarrett did it before him or better than him.
He then says MJF’s mother was a call-girl and his dad was an ambulance chaser. He then claims that MJF’s girlfriend is just like his mother. He then calls MJF a scared little boy. He then goes back to calling MJF a one hit wonder.
Best comeback to MJF ever.
MJF claims he filled Wembley and now he’s gotten screwed. He complains he has to wait in line behind Jarrett and it makes him angry. He then claims no fan has ever cared about Jarrett. MJF then brings up Owen Hart. That is what makes Jarrett attack MJF. Security hits the ring to hold him back and Karen is the one who pulls him back and MJF grabs Karen as a shield to leave the ring
We get a video showing that Ishii challenged Okada for a match this Saturday. I need that match to go an hour, but I’ll be happy as long as it’s a typical Ishii hoss fight.
Hook vs Christian Cage w/Mother Wayne
Hook attacks Cage on the ramp and the fight goes into the ring, then onto the floor again. Hook fights Cage back into the ring and Cage tries to head to the back when they separate. Hook then follows him and they fight back to the ring. Cage tries begging off in the ring and Hook allows him to talk until Cage hugs Hook.
‘Hook uses that hug for a suplex and then goes back to beating Cage down. Cage is so good at benign the cowardly heel getting his ass kicked by the angry babyface. From here, it’s Hook attacking Cage and Cage ring to get away.
Hook is dropped on the steel steps and Cage goes after him from here. Kip Sabian and Nick Wayne have now come to the ring. Shibata has come to the ring as well. We get ringside shenanigans and when Hook locks on the Redrum, the rest of Cage's men hit the ring and attack Hook.
Winner via DQ: Hook
Sabian brings in a pair of chairs and Taz says this ain’t happening.
AND SAMOA JOE HITS THE RING.
Joe cleans house and Shibata joins in to give Nick Wayne an extra beat down.
We then get a quick series of promos for the issues coming out of the Casino Battle Royal, and the Undisputed era has issues with Wheeler Yuta, Jay White and Daniel Garcia
In the back, Renee Paquette is with Jeff Jarrett and Jarrett is met by Dustin Rhodes and that MJF has pissed him off and is behind him.
Mariah May joins commentary for the next match
Kris Statlander and Jamie Hayter - Casino Battle Royal
Remember, in these, the match ends with the first pinfall or submission and people enter come into ring at random intervals.
Statlander shows off her strength in their opening sequence.
Megan Bayne is next
We are reminded she was in AEW years ago, but has become a star over in Japan. I don’t remember her at all, and Taz reminds us she was on Dark back in the day. She mostly works with Statlander.
Julia Hart
Hayter meets her on the ramp and hits a suplex as we go to commercial.
Willow Nghtingale
Willow and Megan start off going at each other but Statlander joins in to suplex Megan and then Willow and Statlander have a chop fest.
The Rookie Toni Storm
Storm ran wild, hitting a snap mare and then a shoulder block on whoever is in the ring. Willow then goes on a flurry of dropping women until he and Megan are fighting on the floor. We then get Hart and Hayter for a short time.
Harley Cameron
Harley gets a little offended before Hart hits her with the mist. Toni Storm gets a surprise rollup on Hart for the pin and the win.
Winning a match with Mariah May at Grand Slam: Toni Storm
Jon Moxley (AEW World Champion) w/ The Death Riders vs Powerhouse Hobbs
We just see Marina Shafir and Mox come to the ring to start the match. Claudio and Pac then show and start to edge toward the ring as the bell rings.
No lockups are wrist locks to start this one. They throw hands and brawl in and out of the ring, with Hobbs ignoring Mox’s chops. They fight through the crowd and back to the ring. After the commercial, Mox is bleeding and we are told Hobbs bit the earring out of Mox’s ear. When they go to the floor after this, Shafir lays in a shot on Hobbs.
When they return to the ring, Hobbs fights off a death rider and the blood from Mox’s ear looks gross. Hobbs gets in a lot more shots and then fights off another death rider suplex and slams Mox for two. Mox is able to grab a cross arm breaker, but Hobbs is able to get to the ropes for a break. The ref is dealing with Mox as Wheeler Yuta gets a psycho knee on Hobbs on the ramp.
Hobbs is still able to hit a spine buster. Mox gets out of a backbreaker and Shafir nails Hobbs with the briefcase before Mox covers for two. Mox starts hitting finishers and goes for the bulldog choke and Hobbs finally goes out.
Winner and still AEW World Champion: Jon Moxley
The Death Riders swarm the ring for the post match beat down. Claudio brings in a chair and uses it on Hobbs’s knee and they go to work on Hobbs’ knee. They Pillmanize Hobbs’ knee and Rated FTR show up to clear the ring a little too late.
