TAMMY SYTCH FILES REQUEST FOR HER PRISON STAY TO BE SHORTENED

By Mike Johnson on 2025-01-15 15:05:00

The Volusia County Clerk of Circuit Court updated court record for WWE Hall of Famer Tammy "Sunny" Sytch on 1/13, citing that Sytch sent the following letter to Judge Karen A. Foxman - who presided over Sytch's November 2023 sentencing to prison for one count of DUI causing death (DUI Manslaughter, a felony in the third degree), one count of causing death while operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked driver’s license (a felony in the third degree), four counts of DUI causing injury to a person, and three counts of DUI causing damage to property - requesting a change to her sentencing.

In the letter, Sytch is attempting to get her current 17-year prison sentence changed so that instead of serving the sentencing for each charge independently, she would get to serve the prison sentences concurrently, allowing her to exit prison well before her currently scheduled release date of 9/23/39.  She is currently sentenced to 17 years plus another 8 years of probation.

The complete letter, dated 1/3 reads:

Honorable Judge Foxman,

During my incarceration at Lowell Correctional Institusetion, I have been attempting to make the most of my time, by reflecting upon my crime, while also striving to be a positive influence on other inmates.

To that end, I have recently graduated from the Culinary Arts program, with a certificate in Culinary Arts, which also includes ServSafe certification. Most recently, I have become a Teacher's Aid in one of the GED classrooms. Helping others to realize their academic potential, and earn their GED is something I have found to be very fulfilling. Additionally, I have been chosen by Dr. Kuehl, the Director of Education at the prison, to speak with the Youthful Offender inmates as a "voice of reason." He has asked me to do a series of lectures and discussions with these young ladies about how prison has helped me gain a new life perspective, and about the importance of not re-offending once they leave prison.

Beyond my education and vocational achievements, I am also regularly attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, and am being seen regularly for mental health counseling sessions.

I have also begun making plans for my life after release from prison. My former business attorney, Stephen P. New, has offered me a job in his office as a Paralegal, and has also offered me free housing while I am getting on my feet. I have been inspired by the idea of working with the Youthful Offenders while I am here, and I would like to continue to mentor youths once I am free. Therefore, I plan to visit high schools to talk about the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving, in hopes of helping the students to make better choices that I have.

I am extremely remorseful, as my actions led to a loss of life, and grief for my victim's family and friends. I am dedicated to changing my life for the better, and to being a positive light in any community in which I live. I desire to serve others in any way possible, and in particular will strive to help young people avoid alcohol and destructive decision making.

I pray this Honorable Court will grant me grace and mercy in their consideration of this request to modify my sentence by running the incarcerative portions of my sentence on Count 1 and 2 concurrent, or issue whatever relief this Court deems appropriate.

WHEREFORE, Defendant prays this Honorable Court will grant this Motion for Modification of Sentence and grant whatever relief this Court deems appropriate.

Tamara Sytch

Sytch had plead no contest and asked for forgiveness before the court at her sentencing.  Sytch had an unsealed bottle of vodka in her vehicle and cannabis in her system when she was arrested following the March 2022 fatal DUI crash, which resulted in the death of Julian Lasseter.    Sytch did not possess a legal driver's license at the time of the crash and had been arrested multiple times in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey in previous auto-related incidents.

Sytch apologized to the Lasseter family for Juliann Lasseter's death at her criminal sentencing, going as far as to say she wishes she could trade places with him.  In a later interview with TMZ.com, Sytch referred to the incident as a "terrible accident.

A civil lawsuit brought by the estate of Julian Lasseter, who perished in the March 2022 traffic incident is currently set to commence on 3/25/25.  That lawsuit, seeking in "excess" of $30,000 in damages, states:

  • “Upon information and belief, on or about March 25, 2022, Defendant SYTCH was intoxicated and operating a motor vehicle southbound on N. Yonge Street, at or near the intersection of W. Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach, Volusia County, Florida.
  • Defendant SYTCH operated the motor vehicle.
  • On or about March 25, 2022, Julian L. Lasseter was also operating a motor vehicle southbound on N. Yonge Street, at or near the intersection of W. Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach, Volusia County, Florida.
  • At the time and place referenced in paragraphs 6 and 8 above, Defendant SYTCH negligently operated or maintained her motor vehicle so that it collided with the rear end of Julian L. Lasseter's motor vehicle, causing severe and incapacitating injuries to Mr. Lasseter. These injuries resulted in his death on March 25, 2022.”

The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of Sytch, that the Lasseter family has sustained medical and funeral expenses due to Sytch's actions and that Lasseter's adult daughter has "has suffered, and will suffer into the future, the loss of her father's companionship, instruction, guidance, and mental pain and suffering as a result of her father's death."

Despite her conviction, Sytch remains a member of the WWE Hall of Fame.  While Hulk Hogan and the late Jimmy Snuka had been suspended at times from the WWE Hall in the past, to date, no one has ever been removed.  Sytch was the first WWE Hall of Famer to be convicted of a felony after her induction into the Hall.
