Where is Randy Orton?
He's selling the injuries from the piledriver Kevin Owens gave him. One would think that lines him vs. Owens up for Wrestlemania season, but we'll see if that's the direction.
I'm watching the old No Holds Barred movie and I see it was produced by "Shane Productions." Is that reference to Shane McMahon? Who was Jake Bullet in the first match with Rip/Hulk Hogan? Did Zeus have any wrestling experience before the film? Who tricked Stan Hansen into being in this thing? Do you think WWE made this so Hogan could try and one-up Roddy Piper starring in They Live? Did you see this in the movies?
Yes, the production company was named after Shane. Jake Bullet was Bill Eadie aka Demolition Ax and The Masked Superstar. Zeus, the late Tiny Lister, was an actor before the film. Hansen was tricked by the payday! If they were trying to one up They Live, well, they failed. The Piper movie is considered a classic, and No Holds Barred is a forgotten piece of WWE history remembered only by wrestling fans as Hogan footnote. I'd argue Verne Gagne's The Wrestler holds up better! I did not see it in theaters when I was a kid. I do remember ordering the PPV that also featured a steel cage match with Hogan and Brutus Beefcake vs. Randy Savage and Zeus and I am pretty sure that's the only time I've ever watched the film from start to finish.
I was watching the Nigel McGuinness AEW documentary and I'm confused. Why did WWE not hire him? Didn't his career end because of hepatitus and concussions?
When Nigel went for his pre-medical screening before signing his deal, he admitted he had suffered a bicep injury. The WWE doctor refused to clear him to be signed unless he had a surgery the doctor felt would protect Nigel. Nigel could not afford the surgery (and as it turns out, never had another issue with his bicep) and didn't get it, so WWE passed on him. It was at the time and remains a completely unfair, f**d up situation in my mind, but that's how WWE was at the time. Nigel went to TNA, where he did contract hepatitus C at some point. He was eventually cleared to return but decided it wasn't worth the time and effort since he wasn't really going to make any great money from it and focused on outside of the ring roles, including commentary and developing a pro wrestling-centric series LA Fights that didn't materialize. Once he was signed to AEW and the potential to earn legitimate money in the ring returned, he was open to the idea. He's one of the truly good people around the business, so I hope that whenever he does wrestle, it's something meaningful for him and the fans alike.
Any word on another WWE Draft?
The last we have heard is that there will be one after Wrestlemania 41.
It's obvious that one day Wrestlemania will land in Saudi Arabia, so my question is whether you would fly there to cover the show?
I never say never about anything, but at 50 years old, I really doubt I'm flying 12+ hours, all the way to Saudi Arabia, for any reason, much less WWE! I've been to eveRy Mania since 17 (minus the pandemic year) to cover the show and Wrestlemania week, but I don't see myself going all the way there, or anywhere that travel would take THAT long, for Mania and I would lose a lot of work time in the 24 hours traveling back and forth to the show, plus add in jetlag, etc. So, you never say never, but I'm doubtful on that one!
