Vince McMahon took to Twitter to write:
"The case is closed. Today ends nearly three years of investigation by different governmental agencies. There has been a great deal of speculation about what exactly the government was investigating and what the outcome would be. As today's resolution shows, much of that speculation was misguided and misleading.
In the end, there was never anything more to this than minor accounting errors with regard to some personal payments that I made several years ago while I was CEO of WWE. I'm thrilled that I can now put all this behind me."

It should be noted that today's SEC settlement did not feature any official announcement that would appear to impact any other criminal investigations into McMahon. There has been no announcement that the investigation into McMahon by the Southern District of New York has been dropped or closed as of this writing.
Today's announcement would also not have any bearing on Janel Grant's civil lawsuit against WWE, McMahon and John Laurinaitis. The defendants in that case are pushing for it to be moved out of civil court and into private arbitration. There has been no statement from Grant's representatives on today's McMahon developments as of this writing. The only recent movement in the civil lawsuit took place on 1/7 as a new District Judge, Sarah F. Russell was assigned to oversee the case.
PWInsider.com has previously reported McMahon and several other former WWE execs had been in the process of setting up a new entertainment company that would operate out of California with the idea that once McMahon's legal issues were resolved, they could officially launch this year. Whether today's resolution means that will finally happen or not remains to be seen.
