AEW Worlds End is tonight. Here is our take on what should happen:
AEW Championship: Jon Moxley (c) (with Marina Shafir) vs. Orange Cassidy vs. "Hangman" Adam Page vs. Jay White
Cory: I expect this to be an all out brawl, with the trio of challengers unable to stay on the same page for long. Page’s new persona as a wild card who just wants to attack people is so different from his previous presentations, that it works for me (and I am not a big fan of his). Him costing everyone the match to get at Moxley seems like the most logical outcome, especially since they are putting the future of AEW on Moxley’s shoulders as the main driver of storylines. Mox’s motivations are still muddy to me, but I think we have gotten all the clarity we will get, which is a shame because his core idea of wanting to remake AEW in his image is a strong one. However, this is the horse they have chosen to ride, and they are going to keep on it until at least a month or two into streaming to see if it raises ratings.
Mike: This is a curious pick for a main event as Four Ways traditionally do not do well for main events in terms of grabbing fan interest. WWE did one show built around the concept and never did it again. I don't see a title change here. It's more likely that the babyfaces accidentally cancel each other out and Moxley steals the win. Then, an Adam Copeland or Kenny Omega comes out to set up the start of 2025.
AEW TBS Championship Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Kris Statlander
Cory: Mone has finally found her groove in AEW, and her matches over the last few months have been fantastic. I don’t know why she is facing Statlander again other than they need something for her to do while they heat up Kamille to face her, which is where they are obviously going. Mone wins again.
Mike: Cory is right that Mone is clicking finally here. I like Statlander a lot but don't see a title change. Perhaps Kamille returns but it turns out she's in cahoots with Mone the entire time?
The C2 Finals
Will Ospreay vs. Kyle Fletcher
Cory: Ospreay has been giving other people wins for the last few months, it’s time for him to come out on top so that he is taken seriously as a top tier talent. I fully expect this match to blow the crowd away, both men will want to show why they are considered two of the best wrestlers in the company, and a long hard fought match.
Mike: My gut is Ospreay is going all the way. He's the guy AEW should build around in my mind.
Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Ricochet
The Cory: question I have here is, do they want to pull the trigger and have Okada face Ospreay at this show or save it for a main event. Ricochet is fresh in his heel turn, and he is doing a LOT of work to get people to hate him both in the ring and online. They also have had him be presented as willing to cheat to win, while Okada is a heel who doesn’t NEED to cheat in order to win. I am calling for an upset where Ricochet wins just because of the story possibilities of him vs Swerve Strickland coming out of this.
Mike: I don't see them just giving Ospreay vs. Okada away without some sort of build as they have a rich history. My feeling is Ricochet steals the win.
Finals:
Cory: Ricochet vs Ospreay is my prediction, and while Ricochet winning would be intriguing, as I said before, Ospreay has been losing too much lately for a star of his caliber. On top of that, we have the threat from Swerve if Ricochet loses, so I am going to say Ospreay wins here, moves into a feud with Okada (who will feel like he was cheated) and Ricochet moves into a feud with Swerve.
Mike: I am with Cory here. Ospreay gets the win.
MJF (ring holder) vs. Adam Cole (with Matt Taven and Mike Bennett)
Cory: Can you believe this story has been going on for a year and a half? With Cole’s injuries, a weak face turn, and MJF getting a movie role, this feud feels like something out of the dim past, resurrected because these guys like to work together. Cole has, in my opinion, been blunted as a star due to this feud with MJF being gone for most of it. My big hope is that when this feud is done, it is DONE, and they move on to new stories. Anthony Pires, on our audio, says that Taven and Bennett will be turning on Cole, but I really hope that isn’t the case since it means the feud will go on. MJF should win because the Dynamite Diamond means something when he has it, and I can’t see Cole as a babyface doing anything interesting with it. MJF wins and moves on to a bigger feud.
Mike: I like Adam a lot but his victory is in his having a great match. MJF should get the win and finally end this loophole of a story.
AEW Women's Championship: Mariah May (c) vs. Thunder Rosa
Cory: I love Thunder Rosa, and these matches are where she shines. However, the big money feud is Toni Storm vs May for the title, so Rosa puts up a valiant fight but loses to May.
Mike: I like Rosa. She's a reliable hand and more popular than she's positioned but I don't see a title change here. I wonder if Storm attacks May with the idea she's been pulling a ruse the entire time, since her character is an "old Hollywood type" anyway.
AEW International Championship: Konosuke Takeshita (c) vs. Powerhouse Hobbs
Cory: Takeshita has been unbeatable as champion, and Hobbs is a man they should be strapping the rocket to, so this one seems a complete toss up to me. Hobbs’s reason for revenge is an old story idea (his team didn't check on him while he was out injured) and Hobbs’s power and ability in the ring is nothing to sneeze at. Takeshita is one of the best performers they have in AEW right now, but does he need the title to be a top tier guy? I don’t think so. Hobbs could get a big boost from winning the belt, especially since this is his first major match since returning. Hobbs wins.
Mike: Hobbs needs a big win and deserves it. This should be the moment.
Toni Storm vs. Leila Grey
Cory: This is Zero Hour match, and Grey will do a solid job of making Storm look good as she builds her new character.
Mike: Storm going over.
Jeff Jarrett vs. QT Marshall
Cory: QT’s job is to make the crowd hate him so the babyface gets cheered when they beat him down and he’ll do the same here.
Mike: El Kabong. 123.
The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd) and Top Flight (Darius Martin and Dante Martin) vs. Lio Rush, Action Andretti, and Murder Machines (Lance Archer and Brian Cage)
Cory:This match is a bit of a shock because Private Party doesn’t have a title defense on the show. I was sure we were going to get a three-way with them, Top Flight, Rush and Andretti for the title, but instead we’re getting an 8 am tag. I think they have to have the Lio Rush team win here, since the baby faces have easy matches on the rest of Zero Hour, Rush and Andretti and a new team, and they Murder Machines NEED to be presented as monsters who destroy people. I fully expect the win to come via cheating, but the heels should win to keep them strong.
Mike: They have been pushing Lio and Action quite a bit. I suspect they get the win.
