THOUGHTS ON SMACKDOWN GOING TO THREE HOURS, THE KO-CODY ANGLE, RICOCHET AND MORE

What do you think of Smackdown extending to three-hours on USA? Typically, I would groan as anything wrestling show that is three-hours is too much but at the same time, it gives a lot more talent some screen time so that's the positive. Money talks at the end of the day, right?

Money ALWAYS talks, for sure.  I don’t love it going to three hours.  Two hours is the perfect time period for me, when a show is booked properly. With that said, it would be a train wreck if Vince were still booking. Triple H and his team have made the three hour Raw shows very good and not the slog that they were under Vince. My hunch is that Smackdown will be the same way.

I think Ricochet isn’t connecting as a main event babyface because he’s a heel waiting to break out. His backstage segments that attempt to make him appear funny, make him come across douchey. I say lean into his smarmy attitude (that he perpetuates online) and make him an evil Flash Funk that tells you he will steal your girl - and then does it! Your thoughts?

I think Ricochet is a really talented in-ring performer. I think outside of the ring, he needs a LOT of work on his character. To me, he is a spot machine, which has merit, but it’s also what I see him as, a guy who does cool spots.  I have never invested in the character he shows us. Unless he gets better at presenting who the character is, it doesn’t matter to me if he is a heel or a face.  And honestly, the way Tony Khan constantly turns people, I don’t know if it would even matter.

Why didn’t WWE close SNME on the awesome Owens Package Piledriver angle? Was WWE attempting to build social media views or did they want to end the 1st show of the SMME revival on happy note for the new casual fans that could have tuned in?

I would guess probably a mixture of both.  They definitely wanted the broadcast to have a happy, nostalgic vibe and ending it with that angle would have killed that. Getting all of the buzz on social media was great for them too.

I have recently found myself really enjoying watching WOW Women of Wrestling on the CW. I actually like the show better than AEW shows (I’m not an AEW hater). Sure, some of the characters are a little silly with silly names and gimmicks but the matches are pretty good for the most part. They have clear babyfaces and heels, clear winners and losers, heels cheat to win, very rarely do they use plunder, the matches stay in the ring, they have stories of why the women are wrestling even if it is a silly story sometimes and the talent is amazing. Women like The Beast, Holidead, Penelope Pink, Santana Garrett, Top Tier, Miami’s Sweet Heat etc. Plus they actually have a TV deal so why are the women very rarely mentioned among the top women wrestlers in the word? (For example I buy the PWI Women’s 250 magazine every year and never see these ladies mentioned but there are tons of Japanese women I’ve never heard of)?

Honestly, I think it comes down to the people that are making the mentions. They have a bias for certain promotions and against WOW.  There are definitely women in WOW who are probably in the top 250 worldwide.

Is WWE Smackdown staying in Sportsnet in Canada for 2025 or is it moving to Netflix?

According to this article it will be on Netflix. That is what I remember them saying when the deal was announced but not being in Canada, it's not really on my radar.
