RING OF HONOR FINAL BATTLE PPV NOTES & NEWS

By Mike Johnson on 2024-12-21 14:21:00

Ring of Honor Final Battle 2024 last night at The Hammerstein Ballroom was sold out.  AEW used a smaller set up for the crowd and had way more space around the ring to account for dives.  My guess was there were about 1,500 fans in the venue.    I am under the impression tonight's Collision taping and tomorrow's Dynamite taping will have slightly different setups.

Tony Khan absolutely loved The Hammerstein Ballroom and noted last night that he would love to come back.   It was the first time for many in the company to work in the venue.

During the post-show media scrum, I asked Tony Khan about where things stood for a potential ROH TV series beyond WatchROH.com as there's been some rumblings about it.  Khan stated they have had some great conversations about ROH TV but made it clear the focus right now was the MAX and WBD deal for AEW.  He didn't want to say where "on the yard line" they were for a ROH deal.

It is absolutely worth going out of your way to see Lee Moriarty vs. Nigel McGuinness and the ROH TV Championship bout.   The NYC crowd was going absolutely insane for the final two competitors.

GCW's Brett Lauderdale was in attendance last night, promoting the company's January date in the same venue.

ARRIVAL Wrestling's Issac Rodriguez was also at the show.

Jon Silver is working through a torn hamstring.  Our best to him.

Former ROH Champion Bandido officially returned last night.  His vignettes building to that return were filmed at Wild West City in Nutmeg, NJ, a park that has been around for decades and is used for a lot of film and TV shoots.   The other characters in the vignette were from Create-A-Pro and WrestlePro, including Adam Kirkland, Yoscifer El, Ronnie Moses and J-Heru.  Bandido appeared to bang the back of his head on the mat while hitting a missile dropkick and seemed a little woozy after, but we haven't heard anything additional.

Danhausen also officially returned last night and got a massive response coming out from under the ring to assist Atlantis Jr. -

ROH Women's TV Champion Red Velvet pushed wanting to face Mercedes Mone during the post-PPV media scrum while Tony Khan suggested there could be STARDOM talents in her future.  Velvet was rapped to the ring by hip hop star R.E.D. last night.

ROH Women's Champion Athena's ring entrance last night was a tribute to the Batman: The Animated Series incarnation of classic DC Comics villain Two-Face.

Billie Starkz got a big ovation from the live crowd after Final Battle went off the air.

During the post-show media scrum, Komander noted that the reason he pushes himself so hard is that he was born prematurely and nearly died twice, so he feels he has to keep pushing and helping others.  He noted he would never give up or stop trying.

The EJ Nduka and Lee Johnson heel turn last night on the Zero Hour broadcast was very good.  Johnson is supremely underrated, as is Nduka, so it should be interesting to see what direction they go in moving forward.

Last night was Jeff Jarrett's first-ever appearance at a ROH-branded event.

Tonight, ROH will be taping this Thursday's TV, titled Boxing Day Brawl at the AEW Collision taping, including a segment where Athena will expel one of her minions.  We'll have coverage later tonight.

AEW will tape their Christmas Day Dynamite tomorrow afternoon.
