SNME had a huge impact on the 80’s wrestling boom with NBC’s massive distribution reach to a new mainstream audience. Do you think Netflix’s insane global penetration can turn the current wrestling renaissance into a 3rd wave mainstream boom equal to the Golden Era and Attitude Era?
I say no only because back then viewing options and the way to view programming were very, very limited. Today, that is not the case. There are so many competing products and so many ways to see shows now. That doesn’t mean that WWE won’t grow under Netflix because I think that exposure world wide will be huge.
Will Raw have commercials on Netflix?
I am under the impression that they will, at least for the people on the ad supported plan, but I can’t say 100 percent that they will.
What was the reason for the WWE discontinuing the annual "Tribute to the Troops event this year?
That’s a good question and I haven’t gotten a straight answer yet. In fact, until a Q and A last week, where I asked around about it, it was pretty much not even on the people that I talked to’s radar. Obviously someone high up made the decision to not do it, but I don’t know why.
I've been a wrestling fan since the 70s. I can't think of the last time I was impressed by a new wrestler the way I am with Oba Femi. He's already shown he's got it all. Do you think it would help or hurt him to be fast tracked to the main roster?
I think he has a ton of potential for sure. I have watched him improve and I think the future is bright. I wouldn’t fast track him though, I would let him continue to improve. Luckily, WWE is loaded right now and doesn’t have to do that with him.
Regarding Saturday Night Main Event, your Q&A dated 12-17-24 mentioned keeping Hogan off due to Ventura being there? To your knowledge, do they still have heat from back in the day or is this another case of time healing all wounds?
They have not made up. You can hear from Jesse himself below.
