Wow, did New Day get some Dom level heat on Monday. I didn't think it could be done, but here we are. If they become two complete a$$holes as opposed to the annoying schtick, I'll watch. Never thought I'd say that about New Day. Ever.
It has been fantastic stuff. It just goes to show how important great booking is. They took an act that needed a reboot and they did it, so well. The best part is that they never touched Big E, they just broke his heart. Great stuff.
After watching Collision on Saturday ( 07 Dec 2024 ), one match in particular stood out to me for all the wrong reasons. Okada vs. Fletcher; it was a microcosm of all that is ailing the company. The FIRST meeting between the two, no build, a cheap finish, a supposed top guy whose losses should be few and meaningful, in front of a small crowd on their B show with limited viewership. I just shook my head. I do that a lot with AEW. Would this not have been a match that would have been perfect to build to for a PPV, maybe in 6-12 months when Fletcher has ( hopefully ) been firmly established as top tier guy? I'm beating the dead horse here, but TK has ZERO self control.
Yep, that is exactly what is wrong with AEW booking in my opinion. Tony doesn’t have any concept of how to building anything. Part of the magic of the business is the build and the wait.
I'm excited for RAW going to Netflix, but also a little sad as the show being only 2 hours has been a real treat. I know they are writing great TV right now, but do you foresee some unnecessary segments trying to fill 3 hours again? Or would some lesser used talents welcome the extra time, as they may get on TV more often?
I prefer two hour shows as well but I also realize that before they cut down to two hours, they were doing a really good job with making the three hour shows fun. I think they will be fine once they go to Netflix.
I don't know if you saw the AEW press conference or not, but it seemed pretty bush league to me. Tiny crowd, very few wrestlers there. Since the show they are pushing is more or less their Wrestlemania, would it have been too much for TK to have some top names there?
I did see it. I wouldn’t say it had a big event feel either. As I said yesterday, AEW is a cold product right now. Dynamite hasn’t broken 600,000 viewers in weeks now. It is what it is at this point.
And on the press conference subject, what purpose exactly does Conrad Thompson serve being there? I love watching 83 Weeks with Eric Bischoff, but Eric can be skewering AEW and Conrad always takes the soft approach and rarely lays on with any meaningful criticism. At this stage, is he just not a complete shill for the company?
I guess it depends on how you look at it. If he loves that style of wrestling, which is all about moves and workmate, then he isn’t a shill. He is putting over what he likes. Why is he there? I would guess for the photo opportunity. He’s not a journalist, he’s a co-host.
