WHY DOES TONY KHAN PAY TALENTS HE DOESN’T WANT TO USE (I DON’T HAVE A GOOD ANSWER), CENA THE HUCKSTER, WHAT IS AN INDY AND MORE

Rey Fenix clearly doesn’t want to be in AEW anymore. Why won’t Tony Khan just release him from his deal since he isn’t using him anyway?

I don’t know how Tony’s mind works but if it’s me, if I have a talent that I don’t want to use I sure as hell wouldn’t be paying them.  If his concern is keeping him away from WWE, that’s just stupid. WWE is not his competition anymore since he has let his product sink so much with his bad booking.

So, is Marina Shafir supposed to be AEW's equivalent to Rhea Ripley?  And if so, doesn't that unintentionally(or completely intentionally, who knows with AEW) make Jon Moxley the equivalent to Dominik Mysterio?

No one sane would seriously make that comparison so yeah, that is probably Tony’s intent. Rhea grew and grew as a talent to where she is now. Marina has not, in any way. shape or form.  As for Mox being Dom, I can’t go THAT far!

Maple Leaf Pro had a great first show and Scott D’Amore indicated that they'd have more announcements about next year soon after their debut. They've already cooled off IMO and no announcements either. Do you know what's next for them?

From everything I have been told they will be back in 2025. Scott has said as much in interviews.

I just realized that John Cena has been doing the voiceovers for Honda commercials, how long has he had that job?

I don’t know the exact date but it’s been years now.  You are late to the party on this one.

I feel like the term “indies” has been thrown around a lot since WCW closed and that term was applied to almost every promotion that wasn’t TNA (and now AEW). For years, ROH was classified by many as an indie promotion while also selling out Hammerstein Ballroom with stars that came to WWE with noticeable fanfare. In your opinion, what was the “cutoff” of a promotion being an indie or not?

ROH was not an indy to me through its Sinclair run.  It ran regularly, had TV, did PPVs.  To me, indies don’t do those three things.  That is my cut off point.

Something that's been rattling around my brain, so I thought I'd like to see what you guys think...We've seen a series of talents who had taken their characters and gotten them over well in the friendlier (and smaller) confines of NXT, but they've crashed and burned when called up to the main roster. The character just doesn't translate to the bigger stage (Adam Rose, No Way Jose jump out as examples.)  And on that note, while I have more trust in the new regime, it seems like there are some characters in NXT now that I just don't know will translate well at the next level. I look at some of them and don't know how it would play, even with better writing support (Chase U and the D'Angelo Family just seem doomed to be characters that would not translate well - and none of that is a reflection on the talents involved.)  Is it just a matter of what works in the smaller arena doesn't play in the bigger buildings? Is it a breakdown between the writing staffs at NXT and the main roster? Is it leftovers of trying to please the former boss (and some of the NXT 2.0 character development) - because we're seeing less and less of those kind of characters popping up? Or is there a certain amount of belief in a "if they pull this off, they should be able to do anything else we ask of them" attitude?

In some cases, like Adam Rose, the act is perfect for a small building that has a lot of repeat customers. They get to know the act and grow with it.  In other cases, it comes down to Shawn Michaels having a different view of creative than Paul Levesque.  The same was true when it was Paul feeding Vince McMahon back in the dark days. Not every NXT act will translate to the main roster, nor should we expect it too.  But it’s also important for wrestlers to get reps and learn the WWE way.
