ROH Episode 93 Review: Alwayz Ready for ROH
Two weeks until Final Battle and we only have two matches announced for the show, are we shocked here? Anyway, despite us being on the road to the biggest ROH show of the year, you already know what the big takeaway from this week's episode is. Since ROH teaches us to alwayz be ready for anything!
Grizzled Young Veterans Promo:
They say they are tired of the disrespect they have received throughout the tag team division and want an opportunity. They then confronted a group of independent talent saying eating snacks is not the way to winning championships and he is tired of these young guys taking food off their plates.
Alex Reynolds vs Katsuyori Shibata:
So given that we have seen Shibata on ROH TV a lot more recently, I assume he will somehow be on the Final Battle card in some capacity. This match was short as Shibata was able to show his dominance throughout the match. Uno tried to get involved early on so Reynolds could take advantage, but it was not enough. Shibata made Reynolds tap out as he moves on to his next challenger.
Winner: Katsuyori Shibata
JD Drake and Beef vs Waves and Curls:
This match was taped during the Dynamite tapings where Beef and Drake got little to no reaction when they made their entrance. They got the win quickly as we got our first squash match of the night.
Winners: JD Drake and Beef
ROH showed a 5-minute commercial for Jay Lethal's new Black Machismo action figure when QT Marshall interrupted. He said he wanted to wrestle Lethal at Final Battle, but Lethal says he is looking to fight a bigger fish at the biggest show of the year.
Trish Adora vs Rachael Ellering:
I have been looking forward to seeing how Adora would adapt her new heel turn in the ring. Glad it almost took us a month to get there. This match was awesome. Adora has a new fire in her and she can show everyone that she has something to prove. I think by next year she will be the new Women’s TV Champion and she is on her way to that after this win.
Winner: Trish Adora
TV Time with Chris Jericho:
Very glad it only took a month for Jericho to finally make his live appearance on the brand he is the world champion on. Jericho says this is a monumental occasion because this is the first time TV Time has made it to ROH TV. He says he has some information on his Final Battle opponent, he says as the ROH World Heavyweight Champion he also wants to give the people something special and that’s what he wants to do with his Final Battle opponent. He says he wants to fight someone with the warrior attitude and someone from New York City, as he names a bunch of NYC legends. Bryan Keith says that if Frank Sinatra was alive then Jericho would squash him. Matt Cardona comes out and confronts Jericho. Jericho starts to call him Zack, but Cardona says Zack is dead. Cardona says that Jericho needs to learn his name fast as he introduces himself to the crowd. He knocks Jericho's cowboy hat off as Cardona walks away.
Dark Order Promo:
Reynolds says that there is no shame in losing to the best wrestler in the world as Silver interrupts. He says he saw the Grizzled Young Veterans messing with some extras so he stole their gear as all the members of the Dark Order laughed and ran away so they would not get caught.
Griff Garrison and Preston Vance vs Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun:
Garrison and Vance were able to put up a fight against Liona and Kaun, I was shocked. I like the team of Garrison and Vance especially since Garrison has not done much since Karter got injured. Liona and Kaun are still undefeated in the ROH Tag Team Division as they may be looking to go after the ROH World Tag Team Championships.
Winners: Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun
Rachael Ellering and Harley Cameron Promo:
Ellering was talking about her match against Adora when Cameron interrupted. She said she was rooting for Cameron and she got Ellering a gift. She said she was proud of the effort Ellering gave and Ellering says Cameron is growing on her. They hugged it out as Ellering says Cameron is not that bad of a kid after all.
Billie Starkz vs Lady Frost:
Another great women’s match on tonight’s ROH episode. Frost and Starkz are two of the future stars of the ROH Women’s Division and they showed that in this match. Starkz was able to show her more aggressive side as she picked up the quick roll-up to get the win over Frost. It seems as if she is setting her eyes on Athena.
Winner: Billie Starkz
The Righteous Promo:
There was a promo package showing what has been going on between The Righteous and The Sons of Texas for the last month on ROH TV. The Righteous then announced that officially at Final Battle it will be The Sons of Texas vs The Righteous in a Texas Bull Rope Match.
They showed Nigel McGuinness vs Naomichi Marufuji from Final Battle 2008 as our throwback match for this week's episode.
Matt Taven Promo:
Taven says he has been on a role lately on ROH and he wants to finally win all the titles in ROH History. He calls out Moriarty for a shot at the Pure Championship on ROH TV next week as he says that he will finally win the final championship to complete his puzzle.
Top Flight (Darius and Dante Martin) and Action Andretti vs Shane Taylor and The Infantry (Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean):
After all the hype ROH has given the new version of the Infantry over the last couple of weeks, I was shocked they lost here. The match was a little rushed, however, both teams were able to get all of their stuff in and the crowd was into it. Top Flight and Leila Grey celebrated their big win and the fact that all four of them were on the same page as we closed out another episode of ROH.
Overall:
Although I would rather see Jericho face off against someone on the ROH Roster, I do give them credit for creativity with the Cardona stuff. I think the Final Battle card will fill its way out (for my sake at least). The episode was a typical episode of ROH as we enter the most important time of the year.
