So randomly something popped on my feed regarding last years tribute to the troops, when Brad Nessler, grade A announcer and apparent WWE fan, was on the show as a guest commentator publicist the Army/Navy football game airing the next day. Nessler has that perfect broadcast voice, ironically the one Vince was always looking for, but with no prep seemed very much not out of place and on point. Do you think that may have lead to the recruitment of (the very excellent) Joe Tessitore, who also has a perfect broadcast voice, is a fan, and has taken to this business about as fast as Kurt Angle did? Or just a coincidence in your opinion?
I don’t know of any correlation between the two. TKO loves mainstream people being involved with WWE, which is understandable. Tess has been a great hire.
Which city will host for Wrestlemania 42?
It has not been announced yet.
While taking shots at a relationship between family members is always going to lead to harsh feelings, I do think it is funny how a lot of AEW fans are rooting on Tony severing times with GCW and not allowing Ricky Starks to work there. Worse yet, these fans are asking him to also pull Starks from a House of Glory show just because a commentary also doesn't speak highly of AEW. I thought AEW fans were the indie fans? Have the indie fans abandoned them and it is just a bunch of sycophants who only want AEW praise?
I think most AEW fans are just wrestling fans. It’s the vocal “us vs. them” minority that are the issue. I don’t pay much attention to what the outliers have to say. The other Dave is the one who caters to them.
Stevie Richards mentioned something called “Card Psychology” insofar as there’s a specific purpose for every match on the card. I know openers need to be hot to pump up the crowd. Match #2 is usually the weakest match on the card and the main event is where you book your money drawing match. If you know what the purpose of match # 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 is on an 8 match show, please let us know. Thanks a bunch!
Honestly, it depends on how loaded the card is. On a show where most or all of the matches are important, it’s just a matter of feel for the booker. On other shows, where say there are three big matches, you would put a come down match between the main event.
If a talent debuts in the main event mix, how do you prevent them from cooling off and sliding into irrelevance?
That conundrum is exactly why we don’t see all that many talents debut at the top. The journey is part of the process. If someone debuts at the top they had better be someone that can stay at the top.
