ROH Episode 92 Review: Thanksgiving of Honor
Happy Thanksgiving! What better way to spend this holiday than being grateful that we are officially on the road to Final Battle? Despite this being your usual episode of ROH, with very minimal happenings, we did get our first match announcement for the show as well as a Chris Jericho appearance! Let’s review!
Chris Jericho Promo:
After his match last night with Ishii, Jericho says that he will be coming to Final Battle next month in Nueva York. He says there is no one on the roster more New York than he is as he sings a rendition of New York. It’s a Thanksgiving miracle that he showed up on the show.
EJ Nduka and Lee Johnson vs Anthony Gangone and Kubes:
Of course, we started with a squash, what else is new?
Winners: EJ Nduka and Lee Johnson
Queen Aminata vs Christina Marie:
And another one…
Winner: Queen Aminata
Iron Savages (Boulder, Bronson, and Jacked Jameson) vs MXM Collection (Mansoor and Mason Madden):
Jameson attacked the Albany crowd by calling them fat. He also said that this was his first time in Albany and he is extremely disappointed to see what the people of Albany are like in real life. The one great thing about MXM is they know how to get the crowd into their matches. MXM has been getting a lot of momentum on Collision so to see them back on ROH was a nice treat for all the ROH regulars. This match was fine, MXM was able to get the job done as the tag team division in ROH continues to heat up.
Winners: MXM Collection (Mansoor and Mason Madden)
Pure Rules Match: Josh Woods vs Matt Taven:
Mark Sterling says that he loves rules and as a former Pure Champion he should be one of the cornerstones of the Pure Division. Sterling continues the bit where he is trying to get the crowd to say Athletes Rule and instead, they say suck, which makes Sterling disappointed. The thing I was confused about was the judges in the match (Nigel McGuinness, Christopher Daniels, and Jerry Lynn) were in the back watching the match. Usually, they are sitting at a table at ringside keeping notes so this was disappointing to see. Taven won this match in less than six minutes by reversing an arm bar into a pin. Very impressive. After the match, Lee Moriarty came out on the ramp and said he was waiting for Taven and that he was ready to do this match any time.
Winner: Matt Taven
Emergency MEM:
Athena says the World Tour is starting as she talks about the qualifying match for WrestleDynasty. She says that we have to jump on the ride because she is going to win the qualifier and go on to WrestleDynasty and win the cup.
The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch) vs JD Drake and Beef:
To be honest Drake and Beef did not stand a chance. Dutch kept using the cowbell to take advantage as well as send a message to the ROH Tag Team Champions that they were ready for a match. Dustin runs out after the match and Sammy stops him from stepping into the ring. Guevara does not want Rhodes to feed into the mind games The Righteous keep playing with them. Rhodes tells The Righteous to get into the ring as Dutch says thank you Daddy and keeps ringing the cowbell.
Winners: The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch)
AR Fox vs John Silver:
Unlike all of the other matches that took place on the Albany Collision tapings, this match took place on the Connecticut Dynamite tapings so Fox could have a match in his hometown. I hate when they show matches from different tapings because I feel like it messes with the flow of the episode, but maybe that is just me. This match was quick, which was shocking since Fox was the hometown kid I thought they would give it more time. Fox picked up the win and the crowd was happy for him to get the big win.
Winner: AR Fox
After this match, we got our first Final Battle match announcement which was Red Velvet vs Leyla Hirsch for the ROH Women’s Television Championship
They showed Chris Hero vs Eddie Kingston which was a Fight Without Honor Match from Final Battle 2009
The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Riley, and Rocky Romero) vs Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson) and Pat Buck:
Not only was this match totally random, but should not have main evented. I understand because you have all these ROH legends on the show that you wanted to capitalize on that, but with the tag team match being the only storyline thing that happened on this episode that should have closed the show. This was a fun six-man tag. Everyone was able to get their stuff in and The Conglomeration proved why they are one of the top babyface factions in all of AEW right now.
Winners:
Overall: The Conglomeration (Mark Briscoe, Kyle O’Riley, and Rocky Romero)
In my opinion, they did not need to run ROH tonight. Personally, since I had nothing to do I did not mind it, but like most of the weekly episodes, nothing was accomplished. The only two things that mattered in this episode were the first Final Battle match announcement and the continued story of The Righteous and the tag team champions. Oh well, until next week.
