Wrestling Open Week 151
11/21/24 Worcester, MA
Spotlight Match: Love Doug vs Armani Kayos
Doug sucks now. He’s so mean. He even threw flowers for his sponsor in the trash. Heartless. Doug dodges a rear view. Armani humps his head into the mat, ala Matt Sells (or someone else who did this spot more recently, I guess). This is a match we’ve seen before several times but not in this story configuration. It’s also a case where we can see how both have grow as performers. The match itself goes back and forth pretty well. Kayos hits a HARD rear view but Doug dodges a moonsault and hits a rebound for the win!
Match 1: DJ Powers vs Pedro Dones
DJ doesn’t want to lose again and attacks Dones as he gets in the ring. Powers stays on the attack for a lot of this but can’t put the Shot Caller away…and he’s very upset about this. Dones rallying, Powers tries a sunset flip but Pedro locks the legs in an alligator clutch and gets the three! Solidly good match.
Match 2: Bryce Donovan vs Jaelyn Brandyn
Brandyn is having a good time in a rare singles outing and that in and of itself annoys Bryce. The crowd torments Donovan and he is taking all of their hate out on Jaelyn. To his credit, Jaelyn is trying to reverse as much of the heavy stuff as he can but he is getting clubbed and tossed a lot. Jaelyn finds a target in the knees, good tactic. Springboard clothesline for two! Bryce limping but catches Jaelyn with a black hole slam and a Damocles puts him down.
Mark Sterling is out here and wants to know what Bryce did to Stanley Dragowski. Bryce says he just found him like that. But he says that Stanley said he was going back to Poland and never coming back again. Sterling asks Bryce what his problem is. Everyone is mad at him, even Sterling. Bryce don’t care. Everyone wants to know who his anonymous sponsor is. He ain’t cracking right now. But in two week, him and Jariel Rivera will take on Dezmond Cole and Jermaine Marbury again…but his sponsor will be in attendance. if he loses, Bryce says he’ll cancel the sponsorship. But if he wins? Bryce gets “a favor” from Wrestling Open. He goes to attack Sterling but Cole is out here and runs him out of the ring. Cole says the match is ON.
Match 3: Dezmond Cole vs RJ Rude (w/ Rex Lawless)
RJ wants no dancing in his house. Cole wants no singing in his. We want some fighting. Good back and forth fighting here…until RJ grabs a mic to sing to us. Cole uses that moment to remove and fire up. Rude dodges the What Goes Up but Cole hits the old turnbuckle superkick / German combo. RJ gets the knees up on the swanton but can’t finish the job with a popup knee! Boofa with a poisonrana and a swanton for the win!
Match 4: Tiara James (w/ Paris Van Dale) vs “The Gnomie” Gabby Forza
Forza makes her return to Worcester by dominating Tiara in the early moments, sending her to the floor repeatedly to strategize with Paris. Of course, it’s Paris who has to interfere to give James a chance in this fight. Gabby flies out of the corner with a huge lariat. James tries to come but but she gets in a pointless squabble with Ref Gina and eats a spear! Gabby wins!
Gabby calls out Allie Katch. She wants her gnome back! Katch is here! Gabby wants her rematch. “What’s in it for ME?” Says Katch. Gabby says if she gets her rematch and Katch puts the gnome on the line….she’ll do ANYTHING SHE WANTS. Katch is going to think this over…but promises that whatever it is, it’s going to HURT. But Gabby asked for it. Intriguing.
Match 5: Swipe Right (Brad Baylor & Ricky Smokes) vs Sunshine Machine (TK Cooper & Chuck Mambo)
The new Wrestling Open tag champs are taking on the former Progress tag champs. This is a hell of a test for the first tag team to be in the WWE ID program but also a wild debut for Sunshine Machine. They won a Championship raffle to fight the champs! For the opening few minutes, they are really making the champs regret this raffle entirely. Mambo and Cooper are impressive and the Worcester crowd immediately responds to this energy. Cooper is all hard swinging energy. Mambo is bouncy af. This is a blast. A quick escape and tag to Baylor cuts the good times off, as the champs isolate Mambo for the beatdown. Mambo does a corner to corner dive to get the tag to Cooper. Holy s***! Cooper with a springboard flipping hangman’s legdrop to smokes! Jeeeeesus! Mule kick German combo for a near fall! Baylor clears Cooper. Smokes with a gory bomb in the corner and a Super Swipe gives the W to the champs. But holy hell, did Sunshine Machine stand out here. Swipe Right knows this and proceeds to stomp them out after the bell, making an example of thier challengers until Dustin Waller and his partner, a steel chair run out and save the day! Waller says he was wrong that they would act like CHAMPIONS. Maybe he brings Kylon in and gives them an example on how champions act. But for now? Dustin has a match. But again, THIS MATCH? Holy heck.
Match 6: Dustin Waller vs Nick Robles (w/ his annoying cowbell)
Robles tries to swing the bell but Waller ducks and chops up the rocker boy. Dustin going for the kill early but Robles trips him up in the rope. Big vertical suplex for two. Robles counters the handspring cutter into a fireman’s carry superkick. Dustin weathers this and the second attempt on that cutter hits the mark and Robles takes the three.
Match 7: Julius Draeger vs CPA
Draeger is way too serious and wound way too tight for CPA’s brand of wrestling. He tries to attack during the customary shirt rip and pays for that immediately. CPA tries the form 1099 and a missile dropkick but nobody’s home. Draeger with a big uppercut and a running knee to the spine. CPA tries the 1099 again but Draeger hits a side slam instead. The clip on tie fakes out Draeger and CPA fires back. Shotgun into the ropes! 1099 connects! A frustrated Draeger throws a shirt in CPA’s face but eats a missile dropkick and the taxman gets the numbers he wants to hear!
Main Event: Alec Price & Ray Jaz vs Joe Ocasio & Aaron Rourke
Lots of bad blood here. Joe stole the Jaz Jersey Shore house key. He also got one over on Alec Price when he tried to beat down Aaron Rourke a few weeks back. But Rourke has that WWE ID contract now…and Price certainly seems to feel overlooked lately. Price and Rourke kick it off right but it’s the clash between Jaz and Ocasio that brings a lot of energy to this. Unfortunately, the Landmine gets stuck in the corner of two people who hate him and it’s double team city. Price makes sure they have the up by kicking Rourke off the apron. Ocasio baits Alec into blasting a knee into Jaz! Joe tries a superplex but get into a tree of woe…no problem! Spider suplex sends Price flying! Tag to the Dimepiece! Big hip attack and blue Thunder almost ends it but Proce breaks up the pin! Jaz tosses a distracted Rourke into the buckles. Joe eats the steps. Price and Jaz capitalize and run over Aaron while the land mine recovers. Price with a top rope stomp to the lower back! Rourke kicks out! Double trash knees in the corner! Rourke gets price to leg lariat Jaz! One arm uranage out of the corner! Tag to Ocasio! German to Jaz! German to Price and he hits Jaz on the way down! Price with a superkick but Rourke hits a meteora! Joe with a suicide dive to everyone! Jaz rolled it…he tries to roll Ocasio but Joe has his number…Ocasio secures the rollup and gets the three!
Rourke is down on the outside as Price and Jaz make the landmine pay for the audacity of winning. Rourke back into with a spear to Price. Jaz sent flying into retreat as the Dimepiece and a groggy Landmine stand victorious!
