ROH Episode 91 Review:

Welcome to another ROH Review! This week has been big in the ROH world, with the announcement that Final Battle is coming to Hammerstein as well as TK talking about media rights on the media call earlier today. Besides all of that we had another average ROH episode on deck, so let’s review it!

Angelico vs Gabe Kidd:

Since Kidd not only holds a title in New Japan but is also entering a feud with Kenny Omega I was shocked by how short this match was. Kidd mostly dominated most of the match as he picked up the win and went straight to the back.

Winner: Gabe Kidd

JD Drake and Beef vs Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty:

This was a fun match. Drake and Beef’s chemistry is phenomenal, as they kept bickering with each other throughout the entire match. Sadly, it was not enough, and Shane Taylor Promotions got the win. After the match was over, Shane Taylor Promotions beat Drake down until the Undisputed Kingdom came out. They chased STP away, as Taven called out Moriarty for a match for the Pure Championship.

Winners: Shane Taylor and Lee Moriarty

The Righteous Promo:

Vincent says they are on a righteous path to capturing the tag team championships. However, before they get there, Dutch has a poem he wants to read for Dustin Rhodes. He talks about his relationship with Dusty and the cowbell he gifted Dusty 14 years ago. Vincent says we should dig what he is saying as Dutch continues to ring the cowbell ominously in the distance.

Kevin Knight vs Serpentico:

Similar to the match his tag team partner was in this match was also quick. Serpentico was able to put up more of a fight than Angelico did, but in the end, the New Japan talent showed out on tonight's ROH Episode.

Winner: Kevin Knight

Tomohiro Ishii vs Mike Bennett:

If the Undisputed Kingdom is supposed to be babyfaces, why was Bennett in this match against Ishii who is also a baby face? Regardless Benett was trying very hard to get the crowd into this match, but they did not which was disappointing because this match was good. Since Ishii is facing Jericho next week on Dynamite, he had to win this one so he could get momentum heading into that matchup.

Winner: Tomohiro Ishii

They showed The Briscoe Brothers vs Kensuke Sasaki and Katsuhiko Nakajima from Final Battle 2008 when I was seven years old…

Shingo Takagi vs Ariya Daivari:

Before the match started Mark Sterling came out to talk about the Premier Athletes shirt as well as saying that Daivari was going to defeat Takagi. Daivari put up a good fight against the veteran, but there was no way he was winning this one. There was a lot of New Japan presence on this show, I am curious to know if they will be involved with Final Battle next month.

Winner: Shingo Takagi

ROH Women’s Championship Proving Grounds Match: Athena vs Leila Grey:

I think this was Grey’s strongest performance in ROH so far. She was able to counter a lot of the usual moves Athena shows us every week and she lasted eight out of the ten minutes. Athena won the match by choking out Grey and even when the match was over she kept the choke hold on to show her dominance to the entire ROH Women’s Division.

Winner: “And Still” Athena

ROH Television Championship: Brian Cage vs AR Fox:

Very nice of our ROH TV Champion to show up on TV after not showing up for a couple of weeks. The commentary team did a great job by saying that Fox got his title opportunity because he won three matches in a row, and I do hope they do this more often. This match took a while to get going and even when it did, did not stand out. Cage got the win over Fox as we closed out this week's episode of ROH TV.

Winner: “And Still” Brian Cage

Overall:
After the announcement of Final Battle earlier in the week, I thought this would be a stronger episode but my hopes were too high. The only storyline that had progression on this week's episode was The Righteous going after the tag team championships. However, as I said earlier with the involvement with New Japan for this week's episode I wonder if TK wants to have them on Final Battle, especially to try to sell it out.
