It is Wednesday and AEW Dynamite is in the Santander Arena in Reading, PA. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Matt Menard, and Tony Schiavone.
We start with a recap of the build to Full Gear set to “November Rain” by Guns and Roses.
Ricochet, Powerhouse Hobbs, Will Ospreay, and Mark Davis vs Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer, Brian Cage, Konosuke Takeshita
And they start brawling as soon as Kyle Fletcher’s team is introduced. They brawl around the ring until Davis and Takeshita are in the ring, and the match begins. It’s not long before it is back to brawling in and around the ring. Hobbs is put out of the match with a steel steps spot as the steps are kicked into his knee and Ricochet’s team is down by one member as they go to picture in picture.
When we come back to full screen, the match has finally become a tag team match in the ring with Ricochet being the babyface in peril through the break. Ospreay is able to get the hot tag and we get a preview of the match between Ospreay and Fletcher for a short time before Takeshita is tagged in to take the rest of Ospreay’s flurry.
Cage and Archer take over by cutting off Ospreay. As the heels take over, Hobbs hobbles from the back and tags in to hit a bunch of power moves. Hobbs gets a nice spotlight for a bunch of power moves. This is the first match back for Mark Davis, so he gets to show his own power moves against Takeshita. We get a brief time of Davis fighting Fletcher, but it’s cut off quickly so it’s more of a tease of a future match between the two.
Fletcher and Ospreay face off again and as they fight out of the ring, Takeshita gets a running knee on Davis for the pin and the win.
Winners: Kyle Fletcher, Lance Archer, Brian Cage, Konosuke Takeshita
We then get a promo from Jon Moxley where he talks about Orange Cassidy as a snake again. We also get Claudio saying he wants to end Darby Allin
Renee is in the parking lot to meet MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley, and MVP says that Lashley will be in action tonight. Swerve Strickland comes out of nowhere and nails Bobby Lahsley before taking off.
Adam Cole is on his way to the ring for story time. He calls out Kyle O’Reilly, who comes to the ring. Kyle says they have known each other for 14 years and knows him better than anyone, and his crusade against MJF needs to end. He says Cole’s friends will take a bullet for him and Cole needs to see he is a leader and a good friend.
Kyle leaves the ring and Cole is left in the ring alone.
Orange Cassidy cuts a promo about how his match with Wheeler Yuta will be an example as to what he will do to Jon Moxley. Mark Briscoe, Rocky Romero, and Tomohiro Ishii come out and say they have his back, and Cassidy tells them not to because no one else should get hurt.
He then tells Mox that it’s five of them and one of him, so Mox should do what he is going to do.
Kris Statlander vs Hikaru Shida
This is a babyface vs babyface match as the story is that they want a workout before Statlander’s match with Mercedes Mone, and it’s not a good idea. Statlander is on her back heel as Shida gets a spotlight, and showing that a challenger for a title isn’t dominant makes them look weak going into the match. But, if you make Shida look easily beatable, it kills her as a future challenger.
The match is good, but it’s a match where having them face each other does nothing good for both of them. Statlander gets the win with the Wednesday Night Fever pile driver for the pin.
Winner: Kris Statlander
This brings out Mercedes Mone and Kamille, Mone cuts a promo from the stage to the ring says she will never lose the title and the crowd makes their displeasure known. Mone tells Kamille to attack Statlander, and Kamille has an arm in a sling. Kamille gets tossed from the ring quickly. Mone tries for a backstabber while Statlander is tossing Kamille, and it backfires and allows Statlander to hit Mone with the pile driver.
In the back, MVP and Lashley are hunting for Swerve, but instyeasd they find someone in Swerve’s coat to throw them off the trail. MVP nails this person with his cane, Lashley gives him a knee, and they are back on the hunt.
We get a brief video for a promo from Jay White about how he is always one step ahead of Adam Page.
Bobby Lashley w/MVP and Shelton Benjamin vs The Already In The Ring Joe Keys and Cheeseburger
Hey, it’s Cheeseburger! At least he doesn’t have to take the spear and the full nelson that end s the match. Joe Keys gets that honor.
Winner: Bobby Lashley
Prince Nana comes to the stage with a chair, and as Benjamin rushes the stage, Swerve comes out from under the ring with a chain wrapped around his fist. He drops Lashley who hits him with a House Call and then a Swerve Stomp from the top.
Renee is with Mina Shiakawa and Mariah May, and May says she will take anything and make it shine and Mina says they will have a celebration at Full Gear no one will forget.
Darby Allin vs Claudio Castagnoli
The size difference between the two is just insane, so the match will be Darby throwing himself at Claudio and Claudio trying to catch him for power moves. Once Claudio does get in a few moves on Darby on the floor, Darby looks like he’s a crash test dummy. Claudio picks up Darby with a vertical stalling suplex, and he literally carries Darby from the floor up the ring steps and tosses him in the ring.
Darby is able to block the giant swing when we return from commercial. We then get Darby getting a Code Red when reversing a hold, and even I have trouble suspending my disbelief for that. Claudio tosses Darby into the commentary table and then gorilla presses him from one table to another.
Darby crawls into the ring before the ten count and Claudio nails him with a clothesline for the pin and the win.
Winner: Claudio Castagnoli
Renee is with Private Party, and they can’t tell us their strategy, and while the odds are against them, the odds have been against them their whole lives and they are now the champs. They are joined by Big Justice and Big Boom AJ who say they have an announcement after the coming break.
MJF then cuts a pre-taped promo where he talks about Roderick Strong’s bad upbringing. He then says that Roddy feels Cole is his friend, but MJF known that Cole doesn’t have any friends. He then says he will send Roddy back to where he belongs, and he will wish hsi mother hadn’t shot his father, but instead had shot him.
Renee is with Big Justice and Big Boom AJ who will be facing QT Marshall and they may as well have been speaking Klingon as I have no idea who they are, no idea what they were talking about, and no idea why I should care in any way.
Tony Schivone is on the stage to talk to Roderick Strong. He says that he has broken the cycle by earning everything he has and escaped from parents with addiction. He then tells MJF to look in the mirror and think about the terrible things he’s done to people, and when the bell rings at Full Gear, he will pay for all of those sins.
Kind of weird to pull this out four days before the PPV…
We then get a video of how Daniel Garcia and Matt Menard turned the tables on Jack Perry, tied him to the hood of the Jackwagon and drove off. We then get the footage of what happened after that at Collision. Garcia has Jack tied to a chair in an undisclosed location and Garcia says he just wants to wrestle, and says he knows where Perry wants to him to go and he will never go there.
Garcia then grabs a crowbar and beats up the Jackwagon and as Perry says “Is that it?” Garcia and Menard take off.
We then get a contract signing in the back between Chris Jericho and Tomohiro Ishii with Renee moderating. They are in the back, and Jericho says his legal team has to check it out. Renee says it was sent to them last week. Jericho says “What about now?” and leaves with the contract. Ishii follows Jericho and anything Jericho does to delay him, Ishii tosses aside. Garbage cans, people, and then Jericho goes through the concourse and into the crowd.
Jericho goes to the ringside area, all with Ishii following him. They get into the ring and Jericho grabs a mic and says he WOULD sign the contract, but he doesn’t have a pen. Ishii pulls out a pen and brings it to him. Jericho stalls and eventually sings the contract.
Brian Keith and Large William jump Ishii from behind. As they grab him, Mark Briscoe and Rocky Romero hit the ring and they get rid of William and Keith. Ishii hits Jericho with a sheer drop brainbuster and the contract is signed.
Renee is with Jaime Hayter who says she doesn’t understand why Julie Hart interrupts her.
So, Julia Hart’s video interrupts her again and we see her with a bow and arrow as the voice-over says she is the Queen of the Black Throne and it’s time to come home. I really like how they are bringing Hart back.
Orange Cassidy vs Wheeler Yuta
The story of this match is that Yuta is trying to hurt Cassidy before his match with Mox on Saturday, and Cassidy is showing that he can be as ruthless as he will need to be. Cassidy tried to get a pin early on, and Yuta was able to block them and goes for dangerous moves like a brain buster on the barricade.
The announcers put over that Cassidy is wearing black jeans, Cassidy’s facial expressions are more serious than we’ve ever seen. Yuta is getting the lion’s share of the offense to show whatever friendship there used to be has been taken out of him by Mox. Cassidy isn’t doing any of the gimmick-y stuff he does and showing his more serious style.
Yuta brings in a chair and misses when he swings it as Cassidy, and Cassidy uses the opportunity for a surprise rollup for the pin and the win.
Winner: Orange Cassidy
The Death Riders hit the ring one at a time after the match. They bring in duct tape and tape his hands into his pockets. The Death Riders keep picking Cassidy up for Mox to knock him down again. After Mox gives him a final stomp, they leave the arena through the crowd.
The Conglomeration show after the Death Riders leave to free him. Cassidy struggles to get to his feet and he finally gets to his feet and puts on his sunglasses and slowly puts his hands in his pockets.
And that’s the show!
