THE PASSING OF SANDY PARKER, THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN TO HOLD A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, DISCOVERED

By Mike Johnson on 2024-11-13 09:26:00

Slam! Wrestling in Canada reported last night that Sandy Parker, the first Black women's wrestler to hold a World Championship, was discovered to have passed away back in 2022.

In May 1973, Parker won the All Japan Women’s WWWA World Title from Miyoko Hoshino, making history.

A Canadian talent, Parker trained at different times under Lou Klein, Mildred Burke and The Fabulous Moolah.  Parker used her real name because, as legend had it, she once had an issue cashing a check written to her in-ring name, so going forward she utilized her given name.

Parker regularly teamed with Susan "Tex" Green, winning the NWA Women's World Tag Team Championship.  In Japan, she had a two month run with the WWWA Title and also held the promotion's Tag Team Championship.

Parker was hospitalized in 2022 and at that point, everyone had lost contact with her.  It was only discovered this week that she had passed away.

PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to Sandy Parker's friends, family and fans.
