TNA Bound for Glory Preview

TNA will present Bound for Glory 2024 PPV from Detroit, Michigan at The Wayne State Fieldhouse on Saturday. It will feature:

*TNA X-Division Champion Speedball Mike Bailey vs. El Hijo del Vikingo

*TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace vs. Masha Slamovich

*TNA Digital Media and International Champion PCO vs. Matt Cardona - Monster's Ball

*TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions Spitfire vs. Wendy Choo & Rosemary

*Mike Santana vs. Moose

*Josh Alexander vs. Steve Maclin

*Bound for Glory Call Your Shot Gauntlet

*Ash and Heather by Elegance vs. Xia Brookside and Brinley Reece

*Rhino and Bob Ryder to be inducted into TNA Hall of Fame

Let’s take a look at the matchups:

Rhino and Bob Ryder to be inducted into TNA Hall of Fame

While not a match, I did want to give credit where credit is due with these two TNA Hall of Fame inductions. Both Rhino and Bob Ryder are getting much deserved recognition. While Bob Ryder might not be a household name, the things he did behind the scenes were instrumental and led to a lot of what is seen in today’s wrestling landscape. Rhino had a major role towards the end of ECW and during the era after WCW and ECW was bought by WWE. However, he also played a major part in the rise of TNA after he left WWE. I am happy both men are getting these inductions and I am looking forward to the presentation.

Ash and Heather by Elegance vs. Xia Brookside and Brinley Reece

This should be a fun Countdown match. Although a late addition to the card, I actually enjoyed the story that they built. It was relatively simple, but it’s clear that Ash and The Personal Concierge are having fun in their role. I wouldn’t mind if this leads to another confrontation with Xia Brookside.

Bound for Glory Call Your Shot Gauntlet

To me, the only name that truly stands out as a “ready to win a Call Your Shot chance” is Frankie Kazarian. While I can see him winning, his involvement in the main event (which I will discuss later) also means that he probably doesn’t need to win this match to be featured in a future title match. Therefore, although I very much enjoy Frankie Kazarian, I would enjoy seeing someone else win this gauntlet. The question, though, is: who? I kind of like that there isn’t a clear favorite here. TNA can go a lot of ways with this. Someone like AJ Francis (entering last at #20) can win, giving him more fuel to his chase of Joe Hendry (if Hendry wins on Saturday) besides their past issues. Someone like Mike Santana can win (assuming he can be in the gauntlet despite wrestling against Moose the same night). Santana has been heavily featured and pushed and can keep the Call Your Shot win in his back pocket for down the road after he feels he is done with The System. I think it would be cool to have someone like Hammerstone or Jake Something win to give them a shot at the X-Division or Tag Team Titles. I also wouldn’t mind a new debut, return, or NXT Superstar coming in and getting a chance at a win here. An NXT wrestler winning would not only further the crossover between NXT and TNA, but it would be a nice surprise and further show that anything can happen.

Josh Alexander vs. Steve Maclin

This one is tough to call. The way things have gone so far, Steve Maclin deserves to get revenge on The Northern Armory, right? With Josh Alexander only recently forming his stable, though, I don’t know if it’s the right time to have him lose. Either way, I expect Judas Icarus and Travis Williams to get involved. Whether that leads to a Josh Alexander win or a Disqualification/No Contest - I’m not sure. However, I can also see their involvement leading to Eric Young returning or someone else trying to help Steve Maclin to further this feud towards a six-man match in the future.

Mike Santana vs. Moose

The System has been causing issues in TNA for a while now, so having a one-man wrecking crew to go against them has been fun. Mike Santana has been on a strong run and a win over Moose would cement him as a major player going forward. It’ll be tough, though. Moose is always a win away from being a title contender. Plus, even though Eddie Edwards and Brian Myers might be busy getting ready for their match, JDC is always lurking. I think Mike Santana finds a way to gut through another tough win, though, and gets one step closer to what I expect to be a huge 2025 for him.

TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions Spitfire vs. Wendy Choo & Rosemary

While there hasn’t been a whole lot of build for this match, I am super interested in it. I think this match provides the first legitimate chance for an NXT wrestler to win a TNA Title. I know that Spitfire just won the titles, but the way that Rosemary and Wendy Choo have been featured - it just makes sense for them to win the titles and appear on both TNA and NXT during their reign.

TNA Digital Media and International Champion PCO vs. Matt Cardona - Monster's Ball

I’m sure plans had to change a bit with this feud due to Steph De Lander’s legitimate injury, but we are still getting the payoff match at a huge show. PCO will showcase why he truly is a monster with his insane bumps. Matt Cardona, I’m sure, has some tricks up his sleeve. Expect shenanigans and chaos.

TNA Tag Team Champions The System vs. The Hardy Boys vs. ABC - Full Metal Mayhem

On top of the Monster’s Ball match, TNA is providing more plunder with this Full Metal Mayhem Match. The Hardy Boys and ABC have been putting together excellent resumes over the course of the last few months to make their case at deserving the Tag Team Championships. Of course, The System recently won the titles, so taking it off of them would be an interesting choice. However, I truly think that all three teams have a legitimate chance of winning and I wouldn’t be upset at any of the scenarios playing out. I am just expecting a fun match.

TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace vs. Masha Slamovich

I’ll be honest - when this feud first started back up a couple of weeks ago, I wasn’t thrilled with how quickly it came about. I love watching Jordynne Grace. I love watching Masha Slamovich. I love watching them both beat each other up. However, I just wasn’t feeling the initial start to the rehashing of this feud. I felt like it happened too quickly. Since they started it, though, I’ve gotten more excited for the match. I think TNA did a really nice job with the sit-down between Grace and Slamovich with Matthew Rehwoldt. No matter how I feel about the build, though, I know this match is going to be a banger. The vibe feels like it’s Masha Slamovich’s time to take over the division.

TNA X-Division Champion Speedball Mike Bailey vs. El Hijo del Vikingo

I don’t really know what’s going on with the X-Division Championship. I thought that TNA had a really good chance to make Mike Bailey losing the title mean something. When he lost it in the Ultimate X Match to Zachary Wentz after weeks of him stating “I want to take on the best” - it just felt off to me. Bailey now has the title back and is facing El Hijo del Vikingo with no reason behind it. Am I looking forward to watching the match? Absolutely. It’s going to be a great spectacle. However, I think the X-Division Title needs a little more direction after this match.

TNA Champion Nic Nemeth vs. Joe Hendry with Frankie Kazarian as the special guest referee

Will all of our beliefs come true on Saturday? Is it finally Joe Hendry’s time? It seems to be. Nic Nemeth has had a nice run with the title. He’s had some really good to great matches and has been a true fighting champion despite his busy schedule outside of TNA. Joe Hendry has been all over the place, as well, and I don’t see how they can possibly keep his rocket grounded any longer. Enter Frankie Kazarian - the possible wrench in the plan. As the Special Guest Referee, will he call it down the middle or cause issues to fit his desires? I very much enjoy Frankie Kazarian, but I’m a huge fan of his involvement in this match. I would love to see a Joe Hendry win without any outside forces playing a part. But also…as much as I feel like Joe Hendry is winning, this could also be the out that TNA needs to not have Joe Hendry win if they have other plans. As much as I don’t like Kazarian being a part of this match, it does provide a big enough question mark to keep the fans guessing. In the end, though, I see Joe Hendry getting his moment.

Overall, I think Saturday is going to provide a really fun show. I know I am being a tad bit critical of the build for some of the matches, but I also think that TNA did a great job of trying to compensate for losing a week of TV due to the weather issues they faced a few weeks ago. By the time the show is over, I think I will look back fondly on the action. There is a chance for TNA to have some highlight reel moments and I believe (in Joe Hendry) that the show is worth the money and the watch.
