AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2024-10-16 22:19:00

It is Tuesday and Dynamite is in the Sap Center in San Jose, CA. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Nigel McGuinness, and Tony Schiavone.

We start the show with a video from Jon Moxley giving a speech after WrestleDream where he hates what AEW has become with egos out of control, dancing and partying. We see Bryan Danielson being loaded into an ambulance as he tells people to beware and get out of the way. He says in AEW, you work for him now.

In the arena, Adam Cole is on his way to the ring for story time. He tells Roderick Strong and the rest of the Kingdom he has to do this on his own. He says he could talk about his recovery, but people want him to talk about the worst human being he has ever known, MJF. He says the MJF we see now is the real MJF. He continues to talk about how MJF is a terrible person, and then puts over the locker room and AEW as well. He says it makes him sick that someone may look at MJF as the path to success when it is the path to failure and loneliness.

He says everyone hates him, including him. He then says not to waste any more time, so they should fight right here, right now.

We then here MJF’s music. But. No MJF. We then get MJF on the big screen. He’s in a nice drawing room and says he has learned a lot over his years in pro wrestling and he talks about how he trusted Cole and now he can never trust again. IT’S NOT HIS FAULT he’s a horrible person, it’s all Adam Cole. He says he will never face Adam Cole, but he will also dangle the carrot in front of Cole.

Cole then tells MJF he can run but he can’t hide, and when he gets his hands on MJF, he will give him the beating of a lifetime.

Sing in the crowd: MJF GOES TO DIDDY PARTIES

We then get a video of Renee Paquette asking Jericho about his match with Mark Briscoe and Jericho brags about his acting and music tour. But, Mark Briscoe cheated to retain his title and he wants a rematch.

Next is Renee with Briscoe and he says that Jericho says a lot of stupid stuff. He says that since Jericho let his brother’s name come out of his mouth, so he gets a rematch, but it will be a ladder war. But tonight, FTR will take down the rest of the Learning Tree.

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) vs Big Bill and Bryan Keith

This is a hard hitting, physical match from four guys who are great at both brawling and wrestling. Big Bill blocks the shatter machine by both being too big to pick up as well as clubbing Cash. They also are losing Bill’s size for a lot of his moves as Keith plays the heavy for the brawling. The match is shorter than expected as Keith takes the shatter machine and FTR gets the pin and the win.

Winners: FTR

As they win, the Outrunners come to the ring. We also see that Los Ingobernables are watching in the back. In the ring, the Outrunners build to a hand shake and everyone does 80s poses.

In the back, Renee is with The Acclaimed, and Billy Gunn says they are about to go to the gym. They say they want more, and this brings out MVP who asks if they are ready to be serious and hands them a business card.

Mercedes Mone (TBS Champion) w/Kamille vs Queen Aminata

This is a match where the facial expressions are the whole story. Mone is FANTASTIC here looking scared, looking shocked and then looking pleased when they out think Aminata. Aminata isn’t a slouch either here, grimacing in pain, bragging to the camera, and letting us know how hard she is trying to win. Aminata uses a lot of solid mat holds and unique moves to try to win. Mone is able to string together a series of attacks to get the Statement Maker for the win.

Winner and still TBS Champion: Mercedes Mone

I really liked this match. We knew Mone was going to win, but both women put together a solid match, but we got a lot of personality, which lifted it from an OK TV match to one of Mone’s best outings. Aminata’s got a bright future if she can keep up this level of work.

In the back, Private Party and the Young Bucks are with Renee, and they ask for another shot at the tag team titles. The Bucks say it doesn’t work for them, brothers.

Stokely Hathaway shows and says they could have had him in their corner, and the next time they lose, Private Party is done, and Zay is the REAL star anyway.

Then we get a promo from all of The Elite. They say that today is Kenny Omega’s birthday, and they have a cake for him. And because he had a part of his intestines removed, they drop intestines on the cake. Jack Perry says get well soon, or die, he really doesn’t care.

To my mind, them talking about Kenny is a good sign for his return.

Orange Cassidy, Kyle O’Reilly, and Rocky Romero vs The Young Bucks (Matt and Nick Jackson), and Kazuchika Okada

Weird crowd tonight. They were quiet for Cassidy, cheered Mone, cheered MJF, and chanted for Okada. They are also oddly quiet during the promo segments as if they JUST want in ring action.

Fast paced match and it’s clear they are pushing an O’Reilly vs Okada feud as they get the spotlight and commentary about them whenever they are in the ring as wanting to see a title match between the two. Other than that, this is a match where everyone gets to do their greatest hits as the Bucks and Okada get to have a lot of the offense.

As Cassidy is starting to take over the match and the commentary talks about how he is a leader, he is attacked in the ring by Wheeler Yuta.

Winners by DQ

The rest of Mox’s team show up to attack Cassidy. This brings down Top Flight who join in the ring, but they are eventually taken out. The Elite stand on the ramp to watch, and as more people come from the locker room to try to stop Mox’s team, they are taken out. Jack Perry comes out to usher the rest of The Elite to the back. Mox says if you are with All Elite Wrestling, you are under attack. He says this is the cost of doing business.

Mox’s team leaves through the crowd and everyone left in the ring is slowly helped to their feet. We are told Darby Allin can’t be reached, and they are confused by that.

The Elite are in the back and say what is going on is none of their business. Daniel Garcia confronts them and says they need to help out. Private Party holds him back and after The Elite leave, Garcia says he has their back.

Lio Rush w/Leila Grey vs Shelton Benjamin w/MVP

This is a speed vs power match and Benjamin looks like a monster next to Rush. Rush gets a few quick moves at the start of the match and it then becomes Benjamin just tossing Rush around the ring. Rush makes every blow look like he’s hit by a speeding truck. Rush gets a flurry of attacks after hitting a surprise stunner. Lots of quick strikes and leaping attacks, but eventually, Benjamin gets a spinning insigiri.

Rush gets a spinning DDT for a two count. Benjamin is able to sprint up the ropes when Rush is on top and gets a leaping arm drag slam, followed by a suplex. Benjamin gets a big kick and then shouts down Rush as Rush can’t recover. Benjamin wins with an exploder power slam for the pin and the win.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

MVP leaves Rush a business card. MVP grabs a mic and says Rush’s youth had him open his mouth, but Benjamin closed it. He then tells Swerve Strickland needs to reconsider his position, because this is his future. MVP says it can’t be Swerve’s house if Swerve's house burned down.

We then have a video from Darby Allin who has an autographed pic of him and Tony Hawk on sale to raise money for skateparks.

AEW then has a promo for upcoming shows.

In the back, Swerve Strickland and Prince Nana, and Swerve says they have mid personalities. He says coming after the big dog is smart, and he will meet Shelton Benjamin any time anywhere.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring to have a press conference for Don Callis. Callis comes to the ring with Lance Archer and Brian Cage. Callis says there are no real journalists in Pro Wrestling, so he will ask the questions himself. He says that Archer and Cage will soon be tag team champions in their new team. He then brings out Kyle Fletcher and Konosuke Takeshita. Takeshita says he will defend the international title all over the world and if you want it, come take it.

Callis says Fletcher has a lot on his mind and a lot of emotions. Fletcher says people are asking him about Will Ospreay when they should be asking about the success of the Don Callis Family.

Renee is with Mariah May who is upset Willow is getting all the attention when she beat her. May says she wants some real competition and AEW is where everyone is afraid of her. Anna Jay shows up and gets in in May’s face and Christopher Daniels gets between them. Anna accidentally hits Daneils and she apologizes.

Renee is with Ricochet and he says he hasn’t been hit by anyone as hard as Takeshita hit him. Ricochet says Takeshita didn’t beat him, he beat Ospreay and Ricochet hasn’t been beaten yet. He says he will be at Collision and show why he is out of this world.

We then go to the back where Top Flight and Dark Order are fighting with Mox’s team. When Mox’s team has everyone beaten down, they taek off in their pickup truck. Evil Uno cuts a promo and says he will eb there on Saturday in the parking lot for a fight. Top Flight joins them in the challenge.

Jay White w/Juice Robinson and Colton Gunn vs Christian Cage w/Nick and Mother Wayne

Let’s face it, both guys usually stall to start a match, and I would laugh myself sick if they both did that until the first commercial break.

But, they don’t, they DOock up and Jay is the agreswsor as Cage is cowering a bit and trying to get away. Nick leaves a chair in the ring and when Juice shows to get rid of it, the ref sees it and They Are OUTTA HERE! Before they leave, Colton attacks Nick and he and Juice drag him to the back as we go to picture in picture.

This has allowed Cage to take over the match and he beats down White during the break. Cage has slowed the pace and does slow and deliberate attacks on White. White does get Cage’s turtleneck over his face and gives him ten in the corner. From here, they move to near falls. I don’t think Cage's “I’m your father” would work half as well if Nigel weren’t playing into it to go after Tony Schiavone.

Kip Sabian shows up at ringside and gets on the apron before going into the ctrowd. Adam Page then shows and looks to interfere but then hides at ringside. Cage and White go back to trading near falls with big moves. I love how Christian looks as if he is about to die whenever White sets up a big move. Sabian gets on the apron again and as the ref is dealing with him, Page hits a Buckshot on White so that Cage can cover for the pin and the win.

Winner: Christian Cage

Page hides at ringside as Cage goes to the back. We see that White is laughing in the middle of the ring.
