PETE ROSE, FIRST-EVER WWE CELEBRITY HALL OF FAMER, PASSES AWAY

By Mike Johnson on 2024-09-30 19:14:00

TMZ.com is reporting that Major League Baseball legend Pete Rose has passed away at the age of 83.

Rose made a number of WWF appearances at Wrestlemania events in 1998, 1999 and 2000, playing off his infamy of being banned for life from Major League Baseball for gambling on the sport while an active participant.   In 1998, a year where WWF utilized celebrities with controversy attached to their name, Rose came out in Boston, knocking the city and The Red Sox with a great heel promo before Kane came out and tombstoned him.  In 1999, a year later, Rose, disguised as The San Diego Chicken, attempted to enact revenge.  It didn't work out well for him then, either,

In 2004, Rose became the company's first-ever Celebrity Hall of Famer, inducted by his WWF enemy Kane, with the induction meant to play off of Rose's MLB Hall of Fame ban for gambling on the sport, in including bets made that the team he managed, The Cincinatti Reds, would win.

Rose later appeared as a guest host on Monday Night Raw and at times over the years, made signing appearances at pro wrestling conventions as well.

HBO released a documentary series on Rose earlier this year.  His WWE excursions were not included.

PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to the family, friends and fans of Pete Rose.

According to Rose's agent, Ryan Fiterman of Fiterman Sports, Rose passed away earlier today at his home and told TMZ that "the family is asking for privacy at this time."
