We are very saddened to pass on that "Jersey" Joe Wilchak, a member of the mighty Atlas Security during the heyday of Extreme Championship Wrestling as well as ROH and other promotions, passed away last night in Florida at 7:28 PM, shortly after entering hospice following a long battle with lung cancer.
In recent years, Joe had retired and moved to Florida, where he had been an avid cyclist.
As I wrote several days ago, Joe has always been an incredibly wonderful person and someone who put his own body on the line to protect fans and performers alike in some pretty dangerous environments and has my utmost respect and love.
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray wrote, "I'm sad to hear this. Joe is and always was a great guy who had our backs on a nightly basis."
PWInsider.com sends our deepest condolences to Joe's wife Angie and all of their friends and family. Joe's family are currently taking messages for him via his Facebook page.
