AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2024-09-11 22:14:00

It is Wednesday and Dynamite is in the Rupp Arena in Lexington KY. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Taz.

We start with a video from Jon Moxley telling Bryan Danielson why he attacked him at All Out, and that AEW is filled with egos out of control and he can’t take it anymore. His mentor said he is what he is and he chooses war because he can’t change who he is. We then see that Darby Allin is showing up, and we are reminded that Mox has been asking to talk to Darby,

In the ring, Tony Schiavone calls out Christian Cage, who comes to the ring with the rest of the Patriarchy. Cage says that in the Gauntlet match, he finally saw that Killswitch has become the monster he wants him to be.  He then says that while he almost cashed in his contract after Bryan’s match at All Out, he wasn't ready, but he is the next AEW World Champion.

We get a quick shot of Kip Sabian leaving through the crowd after trying to get Cage’s attention.

In the back, Don Callis has asked to speak at Will Ospreay. He tells Ospreay that Ospreay has won every Gauntlet match, and he’d like Ospreay to team with Kyle Fletcher to win the tag team gauntlet match tonight. Ospreay says no at first, but is talked into it by Callis and Fletcher, but Konosuke Takeshita does not look happy about it.

Jack Perry (TNT champion) vs Lio Rush

Perry dominates as we quickly go to a commercial break and he is still doing so when we get back until Rush’s speed is able to turn the tables. Both of these guys are spot guys, and after Rush’s offensive flurry. Perry hits a running knee strike for the pin and the win in a curiously short match.

Winner and still TNT Champion: Jack Perry.

This was short enough to think that Rush was Already In The Ring.

In the back, Alex Marvez catches up with Perry, who says that people like him are punished in this life for a reward in the next. He then gets in his big black van and drives away.

We then get a video recapping the steel cage match between Adam Page and Swerve Strickland. Renee Paquette then interviews Page, who says if he found 1000 houses that Swerve owned, he’d burn all 1000 down. He says that he meant every bit of pain he gave to Swerve. He then says if you got in his way or tried to protect Swerve, he will find you and hurt you.

Page goes to the Dark Order and glares at them. Jeff Jarrett gets in his face and says he’s seen a lot of people going down the same dark highway and people going down that end up with regret. He says Page should not have put hands on his wife and his biggest enemy is the man in the mirror.

Page answers by attacking him.

Private Party (Quen and Zay) w/Komander vs An Already In The Ring Trio

We do not get this match nor do we find out who the trio of enhancement talents are, because Pac, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castragnoli, and Marina Shafir attack them all.  Pac says that they are inevitable and a product of the failures of AEW. He says he now has something to believe in. He says the company is theirs.

Mox has a mic and looks around the arena before leaving.

A Bentley with Chris Jericho, Large William, and Bryan Keith. Jericho says he still wants his money and will be showing everyone what is in Orange Cassidy’s backpack later tonight.

Ricochet vs Sammy Guevara

40 minutes into the show and this is our second match. It’s pretty clear the Tag Team Gauntlet match and new storylines are the focus tonight.

Two more guys who are spot machines, so we get a lot of quick moves to start off the match, and the crowd is ready for it. They fight out of the ring and up the ramp to fight on the stage. Sammy hits a moonsault off the top of the entrance tunnel as we go to commercial. We come back to them in the ring and they quickly fight back to the outside and on the ramp. Ricochet does a double jump senton off the barricade, which is super impressive.

They fight back into the ring for more big moves. There’s no story here, just showing off both guy’s moves. This is Sammy’s return to Dynamite and Ricochet’s first long match on Dynamite. Ricochet hits the Vertigo for the pin and the win.

Winner: Ricochet

Mortos spears Ricochet, and while Sammy swings a chair at him, Mortos bails from the ring and heads up the ramp.

We get a video recapping the match between Willow Nightingale and Kris Statlander.

In the back, Renee is with Kazuchika Okada and he is interrupted because of course he is. Don Callis shows and says that while Okada won, he didn’t beat Takeshita. Okada and Takeshita go face to face after Okada calls Takeshita a b**ch.

Darby Allin is on his way to the ring. He says someone has been looking for him and he’s right there. We then get Mox’s new theme music. Mox comes to the ring, hands in the air to show he’s not there to fight, but Marina Shafir gets in Darby’s face. Mox says that he doesn’t know what he saw, but nothing has changed between them.

Darby cuts him off and says he isn’t a superstar and he came from nothing. He then tells Mox about his first year in wrestling, he looked for a hero and each person he chose let him down. Mox didn’t change for anyone and that’s why he looked up to him. He said that Mox shows he loves wrestling by wrestling in the indies. He then says Mox turning on Bryan Danielson showed he doesn’t want to be like him anymore.

Mox says that Bryan can’t wrestle Darby at Grand Slam and Darby isn’t ready to be world champion. He says Darby has to sound the title shot over to him. Darby says Mox sounds like everyone he hates by being entitled and he has to earn it.

Mox says he will earn it by beating him for the title shot at Grand Slam. He says Darby has no idea what is going on, hinting that there is some bigger plan behind everything Mox is doing.  Darby accepts and says if Mox wants to burn AEW to the ground, he will pull Mox into the fire. Mox bows to him and leaves.

Whatever they are doing with Mox, they had better make sure they have a big payoff, but the build makes it seem like something big is going on.

Alex Marvez is with Christopher Daniels. Daniels says this is a big gamble, and Nigel McGuinness asks to speak to Tony Khan and it is important.

The show then takes a moment of silence for 9/11.

Mariah May (AEW Women’s Champion) vs Queen Aminata in an eliminator match.

This is a match to show us the new character and style of May, and Aminata gets in a few moves early, but May dominates going into the ads and then coming out of them as well. Aminata’s work when she gets to be in charge is fast-paced and she plays to the camera. May does eventually hit the Storm Zero (but doesn’t do a good job of picking Aminata up) for the pin and the win.

Winner: Mariah May

After the match Matt says she hasn’t had her championship celebration yet because Mina Shirakawa is missing.

In the back, the Young Bucks say they wanted the greatest tag team division of all time and THEY are the tag team division. And the other tag teams haven’t been good enough to step up and take over.

Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith vs The Already the Ring Iron Savages (Bronson, Boulder, and Jacked Jameson)

Jericho is in the orange Juice stained jacket from years ago. It’s a quick squash.

Winners: Chris Jericho, Big Bill, and Bryan Keith

Jericho grabs a mic and complains that he wants the $7,000 it cost for his custom jacket, and if Cassidy won’t pay him, he’ll keep taking things from him. Jericho pulls out a picture of Cassidy with the Best Friends, and he says there are no friends in wrestling. He needs to forget about his friendship and pay him his money.

We see Orange Cassidy on the big screen, and he says he has the money, but not on him. He then says his boys are bringing the rest of his cast. We then see Mark Briscoe and Kyle O’Reilly, and they have a tractor. They dump coins on the Bentley as Jeircho wines about it in the ring.

When we come to the ring, Nigel McGuinness is in the ring with a mic. He says there will not be a world title match at Grand Slam. He heels Bryan Danielson for being injured and weak. He says the world champion should compete. He holds up a piece of paper and says he has had to watch Bryan’s career which should have been his. He says Danielson is afraid of him.

He then says Tony Khan is not afraid and at Grand Slam it will be Bryan Danielson vs Nigel McGuinness. He says Oasis will play him to the ring, but will Bryan Danielson show, or have we seen the final match of the American Coward.

Hook says that he respects Roderick Strong, but he no longer respects him for whining about losing the match so he challenges him to a match anywhere, any time.

The Young Bucks show to watch the Tag Team Gauntlet match from the stage.

FTR (Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler) vs Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher

The rules are that whoever gets the first pinfall or submission wins, and a net team is added every few minutes.

This match is starting at 8:45 Central, so it  will not be a long epic match.

Both teams go for quick pins to end the match, and these two teams do some great, hard hitting work during their time.

The Righteous (Vincent and Dutch)

Like with most matches like these, the new team hits the ring and takes control. They get pin attempts on both of the other teams before the next team comes out.

Matt Taven and Mike Bennett

They come out for the picture in picture break. To keep the ring from getting overcrowded, if you aren’t involved in the direct action, you are on the floor recovering.

The Acclaimed (Max Caster and Anthony Bowens)

They have some words with the Bucks when they come out. We are told there are people fighting on the floor and Stokely Hathaway is in the front row, watching.

MxM Collection (Mansoor and Mason Madden)

More and more, there is fighting on the floor and then they start building to a massive multi-man suplex before we go to picture in picture.

Top Flight (Dante and Darius Martin)

We are now past the top of the hour and the problem with this match is now readily apparent as most everyone is laying on the floor watching the match for their cue. We do get a nice sequence between Dante and Ospreay which whets the appetite for these two to get a nice, long match sometime soon.

When FTR gets a pin on Bowens, the entire group gets in the ring to break it up.

The Outrunners (Truth Magnum and Turbo Floyd)

I am so happy their 80’s gimmick has gotten them over and out of the “Already in the Ring” ranks.

The Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake and Zack Gibson)

GYV attack the Bucks and don’t bother to come to the ring. The Outrunners get the big dive onto everyone. This leads to everyone getting a big move on the last person in the ring. Dante goes for a splash on Fletcher, who gets his knees up and Fletcher gets a small package for the pin and the win.

Winners: Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay
