Given that Tony Khan likes to play real life fantasy booking in AEW, when do you think we will see the AEW International Champion, Will Ospreay and AEW Continental Champion, Kazuchika Okada wrestle in a unification match to unify both championships to create the AEW Intercontinental Championship?
MAKE IT STOP! I know you can't, but it would be nice. If there is a bad booking idea I know that Tony will consider it. UGH.
Both WWE/NXT and AEW/ROH seem to have the same amount of titles. However, all of WWE's titles (even the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship are starting to gain more relevance) seem important, while most of AEW's titles seem meaningless and don't help titleholders get over. What specifically is HHH doing better than TK in this area to make WWE titles more relevant?
The exact opposite of what I talked about with Tony. HHH is creating characters that people care about and putting them in scenarios that are interesting. He is booking the Titles as being important and not as accessories. Finally, he books the people with the Titles and the people vying for them as important. AEW doesn’t do much, if any, of that. It’s all about the presentation.
How long can the TKO/WWE honeymoon last? Right now everything is going well and everyone seems to be happy. How long do you see it being before the business cools off again?
I have no prediction on that. If they keep on the course they are on now I think that they will be fine. It’s all a matter of keeping fans invested. It’s up to Paul Levesque to do that.
We’re now right at 4 months from the end of 2024. AEW has had a ton of big announcements lately, however none of them have been the big TV deal. From what you’re hearing is that because it isn’t done or has it just not been made public?
Tony Khan has said that he is still working on it so I will take him at his word. I am very curious to see how it all plays out, as are many people.
Do you think the events from last night (suffocating someone with a bag, using a needle, etc) could hurt aew with sponsors. I know Tony was a huge ECW fan and wants that 18-34 audience but I can’t imagine WBD or sponsors liked what they saw last night. Thoughts?
While the event was on PPV and not regular TV, I certainly don’t think it will help with sponsors. I don’t know many reputable company that want to be associated with some of the things that AEW did on the show last night. With that said, it doesn’t seem as if Tony Khan cares about that. He wants to present his vision of wrestling and that is what he does.
