WWE, or World Wrestling Entertainment, is the biggest wrestling organization in the world. Its history goes back to 1877, when an early group called the National Wrestling Alliance was started. The first important event for this alliance was a championship match in which William Muldoon beat Christol from France. Although WWE is very popular among wrestling fans and bettors who bet online on WWE events, there are some controversial moments in the organization's history that it would prefer to forget.
In 1995, a group of wrestlers called “The Kliq” formed. The group included Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman, and Scott Hall. They were close friends and had a lot of backstage influence. However, due to their on-screen roles, they had to keep it secret.
At a live event on May 19, 1996, Hall and Nash hugged in the ring to mark their last night before leaving for a rival company. This moment upset WWE officials and broke the illusion of their on-screen characters for fans.
Bret Hart is a famous wrestler known for his skills. He was set to leave WWE for WCW when his contract ended. Vince McMahon needed to take the title from him, but Bret refused to lose to Shawn Michaels.
In Bret’s hometown of Montreal, Shawn Michaels put Bret in a sharpshooter during the match. Vince McMahon had the referee call for the bell to name Michaels the winner even though Bret hadn’t tapped out. This event, called “The Montreal Screwjob,” caused chaos and is one of wrestling’s biggest controversial moments.
Goldberg had a huge winning streak in WCW, and Lesnar was a rising star in WWE. Their match had great potential, with Steve Austin as the special guest referee. However, the match was disappointing. Goldberg and Lesnar barely tried. It took them three minutes to start fighting. Fans ended up chanting to support Austin instead of the wrestlers. The lack of effort from Goldberg and Lesnar left many fans upset.
WWE is known for its odd moments, and one of the strangest was when Vince McMahon booked a match with Shawn Michaels and God. After Shawn Michaels became a "born-again Christian," Vince decided to include that in the storyline. He set up a No Holds Barred Match with himself and his son Shane against Michaels and God.
This decision stirred controversy. Many people found it distasteful and outrageous. Despite the backlash, it showed Vince’s boldness and willingness to push boundaries in wrestling.
CM Punk’s “Pipebomb” speech was shocking in wrestling history. He strongly criticized WWE and its management. What made the speech memorable was how real it felt.
At the time, it wasn’t clear if Punk was speaking out alone or if it was part of a planned storyline, which only added to the buzz. Although it was later shown to be a scripted moment, many of the issues Punk mentioned are still relevant today. His words still have a significant impact on the wrestling community.
Bryan is now a fan favorite. But he had a hard period in his career. He lost to Sheamus in just 18 seconds at WrestleMania 28. After a brief hug with AJ Lee, Bryan turned around and was quickly knocked out by Sheamus’s Brogue Kick. Despite this setback, Bryan became a leading star in WWE and surpassed Sheamus. However, this quick loss is still seen as a negative mark in his career.
When Brock Lesnar pinned The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30, it was one of the biggest moments in WWE history. Fans were shocked and stunned as The Undertaker’s legendary 21-0 streak ended. For a while, people wondered if the finish was a mistake.
There was also talk that the match might have changed because The Undertaker had a concussion before it. Despite the streak's importance, many fans still question why it ended.
